California folks. What are we thinking.
Democrats have been using “hate the rich” mindset to their advantage. People with lower income love it, they want people who make more to pay more taxes so that they can continue receiving free money and benefits from the government.
That's exactly what someone who is rich would say. Most of us middle class have teetered on the edge of being poor at some point, and those who have had to use government assistance would know it's not all that great (but it's better than nothing). You have to jump through fiery hoops to even qualify. Free money is not one of those benefits. If you are lucky, you might get rent assistance to help put a roof over your head in the worst part of town. You are grouped together with unhoused and mentally unstable people and looked down on. Any pride you may have had gets stomped out, and you are lucky if you get to eat every day. God forbid you get injured because county hospitals are the worst. The people you think want free handouts were driven to where they are now by people like you and with a similar mindset.
There are nearly 70 million people receiving welfare in some form. You're placing your own values onto these people. I assure you there are millions upon millions who are happy to take advantage of any amount of handouts. Despite what you might think, lazy and/or stupid and/or immoral people do exist in large numbers.
Voting D at this point only makes sense if you're mentally ill. Their only defense for this tax is "it won't pass" I.e. Republicans will block it. Basically admitting the policy is insane.
