Today, I came across an article and a news report that completely infuriated me and got me thinking about leaving Canada. I've always taken pride in Canada’s balanced approach to life, but it now seems to be turning into a place where work and merit are undervalued, and virtue signaling is overwhelming and pervasive. Firstly, the upcoming federal budget plans to increase taxes for those earning over $300,000 annually. This is absurd. Affordability is a serious issue now. A few years back, someone earning $100,000 could easily buy a $300,000 home with a reasonable debt ratio. Today, there are hardly any decent homes under $600,000, which effectively means the new $100,000 is now $300,000. They claim to support the middle class, but realistically, the new middle class consists of those earning between $250,000 to $500,000 a year. When you factor in all the taxes in Canada, you end up paying up to 70% of your income in taxes, which is outrageous. https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.7174579 Secondly, an analysis of the public sector versus the private sector has revealed significant inefficiencies. Having worked in government, I can attest to the ineffectiveness and the myriad of pointless processes. I've decided, for my own sanity, to never work there again. Essentially, nothing gets done, and people are paid for doing nothing. I worry this will be our downfall, as the private sector is what truly adds tangible value to a country.
Just say you don't like to pay tax, the rest of your rant is ludicrous
It’s more than just tax. I don’t mind paying taxes as long as I get the services. I don’t see why my rant is ludicrous. You work for Block and running a 300k+ TC for sure, I’d like to see how you react when 70% is gone, for shitty services and a billion processes.
Canada is literally considered one of the best places to live in the world. Half the poverty rate of the US and one third the murder rate. Do you maybe think that's something your taxes contribute to?
@op yeah I hear ya. I also share the sentiment. This country is being slowly ruined by the Trudeau government. It is indeed getting harder and harder to live in this country. Everything, literally everything , which encompasses all living essentials, are getting more and more expensive by the day, yet at the same time everything we get back are deteriorating in quality. Quality of health care, quality of education, affordability, are some of the big ones. Ultimately that leads to a degradation of quality of life. The ones that truly benefit are the ultra rich elites, and the low income ones. The middle class is just a bunch that is to be milked dry. I honestly don’t see good future of this country if this trend continues. I only fear that we are only at the tip of the iceberg as to how much of a shitshow this country will become.
lol low income ones couldn't really survive under this kind of col

Can’t believe letting an unlimited number of Indians into the country isn’t working out
The quality of these indians is different vs ones in states. When ppl are on H1B and graduating from top schools, it creates a different pressure to succeed versus when a govnment is handing out PRs like candies with welfare benefits. Also other than Indians, Canada has a heavy refugee problem. Indians are still some of the most succesful ethnic groups in Canada along with Chinese. But then you have refugees from Afghanistan, Somalia, Syria, Ukraine, Nepal and bunch of other countries who are pretty much on welfare supports. The government also has problems with not approving zonings fast enough and adding layers of approvals, slowing down home construction and increasing costs for builders.
70%? That can't be true right? If it is, it's time for a revolution.
Trudeau has truly destroyed Canada. I'm happy I left and have no intention of ever returning unless Poilievre is elected in a majority government.
Good for you. Curious where did you move to, if you don’t mind sharing? I’m guessing the U.S?
Yep US
Canada is a great option for Indians to proudly live within a white community (foren life making aunties and uncles in jabalpur jealous - bring duty free chocolates when visiting and buy Toyota Corolla which isn’t affordable for Rs 2 Lac
Taxes will increase across the board, including in the U.S. The govts are broke and want our money. Canada will end up like the UK or worse…
I’m not a conspiracy person but you have to be stupid, or living under a rock, not to see the bigger picture with this new globalist tangent…
I agree and anyone with a half a functioning brain with any capacity for critical thought does as well. Thats why I went from a hardcore liberal to a staunch Trump supporter. This new left wing generation isn’t just dumb they’re also crazy and will bring down western civilization. In all the sci fi movies people travel to the future and see flying cars and wild tech but what the world is really going to be in 300 years is an Islamic caliphate back in the Middle Ages.
This was super predictable before Trudeau was ever elected at all, but most people are just dumb I guess. It has worked out exactly like I predicted in 2015, if anything even worse. I left when he was elected for the 2nd time, at that point I knew Canada was beyond saving. Really sucks because I loved Canada but I will never move back now, if you are not on welfare then the US is way better and being a country that's great to be on welfare and that sucks to make any reasonable amount of money is not a good way to make a sustainable country.
many us states are even better even if you are on welfare and earn minimum wage.
Yeah. Canada is more socialist than California, but without the pay to compensate. Idk why people live there. Skiing is great, but most people live in Toronto anyways.
"Idk why people live there." close your eyes and truly ask yourself that question, keep doing it until the answer makes sense to you.
Because they can’t afford to leave?
