I was travelling from US to Canada by road. I had a car collision in Ontario, Canada. A semi trailer collided in to my car from the rear end. I was at no fault and police are working on their report. I have progressive insurance from the USA. What are my best legal options in terms of compensation? Please do keep in mind I’m based in the US and how would I need to navigate around Canadian laws. The car was worth 40K and completely totaled. It was a BMW X1 2023 and had it since three months only.
Dang, that’s bad luck, but I had a close call in Japan with a rental. It sounds like you just need to be paid by the truck’s insurance. I wonder what price will they pay for the car, Canadian or US. Eventually your insurance will have to be made aware of you having a new car, but I don’t see that they necessarily need to know about the accident. What insurance does the truck have? You probably want to call that company. I would post this on Reddit on a Canadian travel subreddit or an insurance subreddit for first-person experiences.
Your best option is to submit your claim to your insurance company and let them deal with it. It’s what you paid them to do.
This doesn’t sound like a bad option. They can probably advise. They will know about the accident but also that it wasn’t OP’s fault. Maybe these insurance companies have a way to compensate each other given their multinational scope in many cases.
Dang bro, are you ok? Since your car got totalled, it must have been an ugly rear-end. Was the trucker on crack or smth when he rear ended you? You insurance is gonna take care of it with truckers insurance but the process could take months. Your insurance should have a thing where it allows you to use their vehicle in the mean time
Geico or Allstate should be able to help with this. "Clean up on isle 7"
