I usually do very well in technical rounds and get good feedback instantly from the engineers however when it comes to an offer they offer me a role or position that is a level below what I currently do. My current TC is 380k and no one I interview with is able to match up to that. They offer me roles that aren’t like a lead but something like a block designer. I have also hopped many jobs and they are looking for someone who has had experience through an entire product cycle Is this a question of not doing well enough in the interview, not having a PhD (very valued in IC design), being a female , just wanting to lowball me, or having switched many jobs. Any insights would help
If you act how you type, that’s probably why. For a person making that much TC (unless you made it up), I expected better. Let’s assume otherwise. It’s not about your gender. It’s about the role and the amount they have allocated to that role and the pay band. All companies have different pay bands. Good feedback and doing well doesn’t != being paid well. On top of that, it’s up to you to negotiate. What’s provided is a starting point. Anytime I see the gender-card being used these days, it immediately makes me suspicious. That’s not to say it doesn’t exist but, it’s extremely rare.
GTFO, you are exactly one of the people who low balled her. It's funny how some guys refuse this to be an issue until they have a daughter themselves. All of a sudden, equality matters.
Equality exists and this has nothing to do with that. You’re reading a one sided post. The economy is shit. Roles are few. Read between the lines. Learn how people hire. Learn how to hire. I have a daughter. If she ever told me this shit, I knew I failed as a father.
What domain of IC design are you in? I don't really see the need/ prevalence for a PhD to do well in semiconductor roles. It's hard to say if your expectations are unrealistic without knowing the years of experience, but 380k is a high salary range for semiconductor companies (not accounting for stock appreciation) unless you find a semi role in fang
First and foremost, shift your focus away from gender biases and instead use that energy on honing your skills. A salary of $380k in the hardware industry is already quite substantial and surpassing that figure would typically require transitioning to a top tech company, possibly at a level above L5. Even if you possess the necessary skills and experience to reach that milestone, it may not significantly impact your current salary of $380k.
I am honestly surprised Samsung pays that well!
380k in IC design? That's already really good, even in a great market. In today's market? No way companies will match that, as they can easily get someone as qualified as you, or almost as qualified, for a lot less. It is really that simple
Not being present for a full product design cycle is a bigger deal than you might think for the more senior roles. The real question is what does job hopping really mean here? What cadence are we talking about? Also, 380k TC in semi with only 7yoe applicable to current role is going to be hard to beat save a couple places.
negotiate? Basically all companies lowball because the job market sucks
1. You're already at the top end of the market if you get that TC with only 7 YOE. What TC were you expecting? 2. You never stuck around anywhere for more than 2 years? The fact that you haven't been through an entire product cycle in 7 years is a huge red flag in itself. Can you please elaborate on why you think you deserve a lead role?
Because I have exposure to a wide variety of technologies, products, and designs. I have more projects under my belt than someone who would have stuck around in the same company
Granted that that person would have seen en entire product cycle but they might also run the chance of stagnating and pigeonholed and not growing. If a person who sticks around does see product cycle and get involved in higher level activities then it’s better
Thank you Biden
Huh ?
no problem
