NYC Resident working in NJ

Anyone lives in NYC and commutes to Jersey City for work (industry does not matter)? I’ve been apprehensive about applying to roles in Jersey City and Newark but I’m looking to expand my scope. 1. Borough you live in? 2. How’s the commute in terms of time and mode of transportation. 3. Common issues to look out for such as construction (as is the issue with the MTA). 4. Anything that might help me that you can add to this.

1. Lived in BK 2. Commute to Newark was ~40 mins 3. You have to pay for both the subway and the path 4. The taxes are kinda funky. Similar to if you live in NJ and work in NYC

Thank you for the insight! Did you drive or take the train to Newark? Also once at Newark was there enough public transportation to get to the actual office either shuttle bus or something or Newark’s public transit? Around what year did you do this? As in what was the cost (roughly) for one day’s commute to and from work? Was the path often times delayed like the MTA?

Took the train. Look at the commute through google maps? The path and MTA are basically the same for cost and delays

1. Lived in Manhattan 2. 20 minutes to JC. PATH only. 3. PATH is terrible on weekends but during the week, it was usually fine (at least during normal hours). 4. As Ramp mentioned, taxes are weird but nothing tax software or a CPA can’t handle. Apart from taxes, it’s really not that much different than commuting to FiDi with an extra train ride.

How’s the transportation at JC to the actual office? Walking distance (because you mentioned FiDi) or bus either company provided shuttle or JC’s metro?

5 minute walk from the PATH station to the office. I’m not sure I was ever in a part of JC that was more than a 15 minute walk from one of the PATH stations. Even Exchange Place to Grove Street is only a 15 minute walk. There’s a light rail, but I’ve never used it, so can’t comment on it.
