Tipping culture is really getting out of control! Waiter gave me ‘a look’ because I tipped her 10% for ‘BAD service!’

Samsara turdyefje Apr 23

It was a sit down restaurant and you tipped 10%? That is not what “out of control” tipping is. Tipping is 20% for a sit down restaurant. Out of control tipping is for counter service or anything else. Go back and give her the other 10%

Cisco Cis-c-hoe Apr 23

Stfu. You earn your tip - I am not tipping you 20% for throwing my food on my table just because it's a sit down restaurant. GTFO.

Samsara turdyefje Apr 23

….thats not how it works here. We don’t expect people who work hard to be barely able to make a living. This isn’t India.

It is a large part of their salary. 5-10 dollars might not break your bank but it might mean they can pay for their basic needs. Being a jerk is one thing but posting it on an app is another level.

Claps 👏🏻

Restaurant owners aren't going around posting how waitresses are giving them looks for paying them so little to begin with. We need to just learn from the owners.

Comcast xxxfinity Apr 23

lol why do you care about ‘a look’ if the service was truly bad

Hubspot efiejcjs Apr 23

I don’t tip percentages, I tip in flat rates. It’s no harder to serve me a $50 meal than it is a $100 meal.

Cisco Cis-c-hoe Apr 23

Wow I like this take. So how does your flat rate look like?

Google pewsztu Apr 23

And this why a 20% service fee is already included in the bill these days

Meta MonkO Apr 23

I give 0 for tips and never got the look

Comcast 🌧️ ☔️ Apr 23

You didn’t deserve a look 😀

Woven by Toyota Code.Leet Apr 24

You don't pay tips for dine-in?

Amazon SIIk72 Apr 23

Never do i tip ever!

Comcast 🌧️ ☔️ Apr 23

10% isn’t bad for bad service, it is how tips used to work

Capital One c1d2e3 Apr 23

Waitress: "This tech guy looks cheap I bet they will barely tip" OP: "here's your 10% plate monkey" Waitress: 🙄

Adobe laVi3 Apr 23

I don’t understand how this is “out of control”. They gave you bad service and you tipped accordingly. So what if they gave you a ‘a look’. That’s the way it works. FWIW, 18% used to be great, 15% was good, 12% was basics were done and less…usually 10% or less was bad service.

HP khammas🔻 Apr 23

You’re setting a bad example. Get into the habit of no tipping.
