What HFT matters more

Stripe mintyyy Apr 28

There are various tiers of HFTs. 150k - 600k+

Big diff between Jane Street/Citadel versus something like Chicago Trading Company.

Amazon gally1 Apr 28

I am confused. I thought all of these are top tier

Amazon placement Apr 28

No top tier are only Jane street, HRT, PDT and a few others. Everything else is garbage.

First get an offer

Google apkytglw Apr 28

Not worth the time if the pay is not competitive. It takes at least 100 hours of effort to get an offer, which is basically 20000 USD pretax for a Google SWE.

It took me 4 hours to get my offer, I guess 5 including the OA

Did you end up joining? How was comp for Years 2 and beyond?

What’s your new offer? (And is the comp liquid?)

Cruise l5bskeux Apr 28

had a Citadel offer along with a few other tech companies. ended up not taking citadel because of a combination of culture, not too drastic a pay difference, no remote, and the overworking culture in general. don't want to get too into specifics, but the comp had a big sign on bonus, and yearly bonuses. I've also heard and read that the CEO and leaders tend to kick people out right before the big bonuses. YMMV, I steered cleared eventually because the comp wasn't all that different. Might consider if I get into HRT, JS, etc, but not too starry eyed there as well

The SWE data points I know tend to be a bit above tech, but not significantly so - and usually with more stress

Cruise l5bskeux Apr 28

Yup, with much more stress. My health hasn’t been the best, so I prioritized remote work, flexible timings and a generally good culture over citadel. Might’ve taken citadel if I was a new grad with good health and no dependents/significant others to plan around.
