When You Deliberately Mislabel the Other Side
When the other side in a debate is making a strong argument that you can't counter, it is easy to mislabel the other side as something else sinister to shut them up, but when you do that, the other side might really become what you didn't want. Two examples from Hong Kong and today with Palestine: 1990s Hong Kong: We love China, we are Chinese, but we don't like some of the CCP's policies. Please give us democracy. 1990s CCP: OMG! These people are anti-China! 2019 Hong Kong: We hate China! We are not Chinese! Down with Chinazi! 2024 Worldwide: Free Palestine from the river to the sea! 2024 Israel + Zionists: OMG! We are seeing the worldwide rise in anti-Semitism! 2030 World: ?
These are common straw man tactics that groups exploit depending on their political agendas. You’ll see a lot of this when you understand the logical fallacies behind them.

Yeah it sucks. I just spell out that they are lying about what I said and move on. They don't want to be convinced they want to be upset because that way they can justify acting like shitheads: they think (or pretend to think) you started it.
