do people just use ai all day to code?

a lot of times I can't write even basic code just because how good ai is.

The captions are listed horizontally instead of vertically in the meme. Ironic

Uber coinBa OP Apr 6

yea it's ai generated😂 I didn't expect it to get it right

Uber Broglie Apr 6

I really wonder what kind of code those people write, because GitHub copilot is a code completion tool that is only better than the normal IDE code completion like 20% of the time, and chatgpt is useless for anything more complex than things you can copy paste from Google, which is also a tiny minority of the code.

have you tried Claude? also if you have access to Devin this thing is bonkers

Amazon uhbn60 Apr 6

Highly recommend giving Claude Opus a try. The future is upon us.

Ai is extremely useful for coding when used properly in my experience. It can’t complete large tasks and mistakes do happen but it’s good for moving 20% faster

Uber coinBa OP Apr 7

yea you need to be a good tech lead in giving precise specs

Microsoft AllAboutIt Apr 7

Yeah it’s goood for moving faster but it’s far from replacing humans. It will write simple code much faster than you can but it’s not as if you can’t. It’s a productivity tool.

I found that Claude/chatgpt/gemini/copilot are all 'helpers'. Mainly good for line completions or writing very basic code. As soon as there is slight complication, they give useless or error infested code. I gave a piece of code to restructure and it messed up bad. It will get better over time but as of now our jobs are safe.

Microsoft AllAboutIt Apr 7

Yeha and I’ve given it leetcode problems before. If the problem is known it will solve it accurately. If it’s not known or a changed version of a known one it will get it wrong and you have to tell it where it’s wrong and it will be confidently wrong. This tells me it’s 100% about pattern recognition and doesn’t have true critical thinking skills. It also tells me the future won’t be much better until we get either a different way to model artificial intelligence other than reading a lot of data and finding patterns or much stronger computers (quantum computing for example). I believe that the more scalable approach requires an entirely new way of modeling intelligence and I believe AI is a bubble and will pop. If we just add more data it won’t improve a lot because of diminishing returns.

I use it all day and can code.

yet you work at Uber

Google $GOOG Apr 8

Developers write code. Engineers build systems. There is a whole lot more to building systems than “writing code”

No you dumbo

Google GameCube Apr 8

No it’s not really even usable most of the time

I just watched my team try various prompts to try to get a new LLM integration to do a simple task. After 30+ attempts from various team members, it started becoming more pathetic than funny
