I've been programming for more than 20 years and I love it. I always have, and it's just improved over the years and I don't want to do anything else. The problem is that no one wants to employ a middle aged woman as a programmer. They take one look at me and dismiss me as a bad team fit. I'm just not sure where to find my place now. I love solving problems, and I've worked for a tiny company for over a decade doing everything from creating an IVR to data analysis, to custom API end points, and security as well as Dev ops. I really don't know how to translate my breadth of experience to a new position. They laid off my entire department in 2020, and so I've done the work for all tech since then, and unfortunately my current job is going away. I could grind leetcode until I'm blue in the face, but the moment they see me, they won't consider me further. Any tips on how to find my next position? I love what I do and would prefer to continue IC rather than move further into management.
I see plenty of middle aged and old women programming. Try fortune 500 companies.
Feel free to reach out on message to share your profile. If it fits the role, I can refer you in OCI for an IC4 position. We are looking for problem solvers, gender doesn’t matter 🙂.
Isn’t the culture at OCI infamous?
