AMA: I agree with Sundar “it’s a business…and act with a focus that reflects that”

I don’t work at Google. But 💯 agree with Sundar and their corporate posture on this critical worksite issue. Protest = Arrest Corporate Policy > Personal Protest Being Disruptive = Immediate Dismissal Google “is a business, and not a place to act in a way that disrupts co-workers or makes them feel unsafe, to attempt to use the company as a personal platform, or to fight over disruptive issues or debate politics.” 🔗 https://nypost.com/2024/04/19/tech/google-ceo-says-office-not-a-place-to-debate-politics-after-firing-28-for-anti-israel-sit-ins/ #ama #google #protest

but.. but.. what about values? 🤔

Apple d[o_o]b OP Apr 20

🤣 Well, Sundar seemed clear on what is truly “valued” now. Good luck, 28

Money over human values

Let’s hope all those smell losers took a shower after being arrested

Yup. This is business and not a market. Activism after work and not instead of work. Political views are cool but not during the work hours. If your parents could not teach you respect for others then your CEO will do that.

ByteDance Js7b3A Apr 24

You can still get fired for activism after work if someone makes a viral video of you and you get identified

Amazon MandyLassy Apr 20

Google created the expectation that it’s this cool company where people can say whatever they want. And now the expectation has changed drastically since their businesses are at risk

Capital One FrjS43 Apr 23

Google created expectation that their employees can vomit whatever during work hours and do exactly opposite of what those ‘work hours’ mean ? 😡.

VMware Blutbard Apr 20

True. Workplace isn't a place for voicing your personal political, religious, demographic views and stands. Keep that outside.

Apple d[o_o]b OP Apr 20

Those 28 were gifted an additional 40hrs/week to focus their efforts on their views. I’m happy for them

Does this statement cover pronouns, face masks, Covid shots (assuming it doesn’t stop the spread but protects vaccinated => everyone’s personal choice)?

Google Goоgle Apr 20

I worked for a long time outside of big tech before I went to Google and I'm shocked with how the place, at least when I first got there, felt more like a school or daycare than a workplace.

Feel similar about 

@Google boomer please

Google weOA54 Apr 20

Yeah.....but isn't this the same guy who sent out emails about trump... Ukraine...BLM...etc

Apple d[o_o]b OP Apr 20

I’m not directly familiar with those ☝️ share more below, I’m interested

Lol

Workplace also isn’t a place to take 6 togo boxes during lunch rush

Niantic GgvY75 Apr 20

I disagree with the method of protest That said, Google withdrew from the relatively innocuous JEDI contract citing conflict with it’s corporate values. This was a more lucrative project serving American Department of Defense. And now they are involved in Project Nimbus, which has far more offensive militaristic use cases that serves a foreign country.

Didn't all US companies backlash Russia and Russians after the Russia - Ukraine war? Where were corporate policies then? If you mean, dynamic corporate policy to keep the business established, it makes sense then. But, it's also unpredictable.

eBay Tiox20 Apr 21

It's only unpredictable if you believe companies should think exactly the way you do. Dynamic corporate policy to keep the business established is the norm. It would only be unpredictable if it was otherwise.
