Many of us in the Bay Area pay millions of dollars to buy a house from the 50s,60s etc. They certainly come with issues(we still go ahead because, in the Bay Area, everything sells). How many of you chose to go ahead with the deal despite seeing damages like moisture damage, leak from shower in the sub-area, fungus due to leaks in the sub-area, etc? Was braving to pursue the house with damages of this particular nature worth it? How was your experience once you started living in the house? Any recurring costs? Do you regret the deal? Please share.
No other choice but to buy and fix. Once fixed, you won’t see recurring issues.
Bought a house in Marin county recently. If you want something affordable, you need to factor immediate repairs into your budget and also accept that you may be living in a construction zone for a few months. But once the major issues are fixed (and they're done well - don't be cheap and cut corners because you'll end up paying double in the long run) you shouldn't have any major expenses beyond regular maintenance. There are always surprises tho.
Can cost anywhere from 10k-200k depends on what needs to be done. My house only had cosmetic issues but I got a good price. Costed 50k over a period of 5 years
