Do you see where I am going with this? The bear in your backyard is not a teddy bear. It is a wild animal, a flesh and blood wild animal with very large teeth. It is not tamed or domesticated. (Taming is the conditioned behavioral modification of a wild-born animal when its natural avoidance of humans is reduced and it accepts the presence of humans, but domestication is the permanent genetic modification of a bred lineage that leads to an inherited predisposition toward humans). If it even let you get close to it, which it won’t, you are dead. Wild animals do not know what petting is and would most likely see it as a threat. If you feed it, you will teach the bear bad habits; like water, a bear will take the easiest path. When a wild animal learns that being around humans is a good food source; when they become accustomed to humans, it will become a neighborhood pest and will have to be trapped or killed. It will lose its natural instinct to run from humans during bear hunting season, and will easily be killed. Despite your sincerity and loving intent, wild animals should be left alone and enjoyed from afar. Instead of trying to pet it, get a good camera and take some incredible pictures. This will give you a lifetime of memories.
