I am a full time GM android automotive dev working from Ontario Canada. Is it worth to switch to ford contractor (on T4) position for about 30% hike ? TC: 123k including RRSP matching Ford Offer: 160k Amounts In CAD $ of course #engineering #software #swe #canada Edit: I added the average bonus I got in past 3 years in the 123k mentioned above. I also added 8% RRSP (canadian 401k) matching in the income. My current base is little over 100k.
With layoffs being a common occurrence in auto I’d stay full
Is it common to lay off contractors in Ford software dev roles ? As specially in canada ?
Contractor are generally the first one on the chop during a layoff.
It is common. The worst part is - full time layoffs have a small element of performance whereas contractors are all laid off regardless of performance.

Benefit differences?
There are not much benefits with GM in canada. No RSU or anything involved. I added the average bonus I got in the 123k mentioned above. I also added 8% RRSP (canadian 401k) matching in the income. My current base is little over 100k only
