Immediate red flags can be caught based on how they treat you during the interview process. Good ones usually are very transparent during the process, might share constructive feedback to get the best out of candidate etc.

Yea can you please share what can be expected for constructive feedback during interview? my interviewer at PayPal looks ok but toxicity is there mediocre (as bad is the norm in PayPal) manager can appear transparent I guess?

Good for you identifying you need to be interviewing them just as much as they do. There are boatloads of questions you can ask. The easy questions won't get a straight answer though. Tactic: get them to proudly tell a story that reveals they play politics e.g. Tell me about a time when you were able to get results (or your team) that others couldn't because of the strong relationships you've built at work. There are other tactics but that's an example.

You can sense it right from the beginning. 1) They look visibly uninterested. 2) They don't follow what you say properly and maintain a poker face. 3) Because of 2, they can derail you even if you ask the right question. 4) Their answers are vague/wrong if you want to clarify something. 5) They can get egoistic out of insecurity for no fault of your own. 6) Ironically, most of them start very friendly “Do you want to have water or eat something? Relax… This is a friendly two-way conversation”

If you notice something's off, there's probably something off. People are easier to read than you think, trust your gut to tell you whether someone looks toxic or normal

Take a close look at their body language and their tone. If they appear uninterested or kinda cocky/arrogant, then magnify that behavior by 10x and assume that’s what it’s like working under them.

No, not really. Maybe if they have less than 7 yoe it might. People are a function of their environment though. 5 yoe in leadership at Amazon is a strong signal that I stay away from personally, as I know it's an environment I won't thrive in.
