There’s going to be an emergency shut down
I’m genuinely curious what you guys think since I believe there are some really really high earners on here and that can’t be the norm but also, there’s a ton of people not on blind not publishing salaries. I think most people would consider 200-300K a great salary. What % of people earn that much in the states? It seems like everyone I know works in high paying tech companies or high paying white collar jobs such as law, healthcare, finance, etc. might just be my circle though
if you're in big tech as swe you'd get to 300k+ within 4 to 6 years usually so its not uncommon at all. but anywhere else it would be top 0.1%
mostly before 2023, especially 2021-2022, anyone that can solve fizz buzz got 300K+ TC, not any more
hence why i said IF you're in big tech
Who voted for 50%? You can literally look up income percentages
Blame the poll options. They are all correct.
Not very
Despite making 300k I still feel only middle class. Taxes as a W2 sucks, and cost of living (NYC) is just crazy. I don't even have an expensive lifestyle, but rent, food, etc adds up quickly. I'm eating Spam y'all. I feel like I shouldn't have to lol.
If that is true, you still should be able to save $50k or more a year which is a lot. And easily over 1 mil in 15 years. A good chunk for retirement separate from your IRA or 401k
I mean yeah, I save a ton. Retirements are maxed out, and I DCA heavily. But a lot of that money won't be realized until like... 30 years from now lol. I wish I would live like a king today, instead of when I'm 65. I could put more money into fun things I guess, but then I look at all the missed opportunities for growth if I'm not investing more.
you are ignoring wildly large range of cost of living across USA. in bay area 1% is $1M. in other places it’s .01%. very few that live in nashville will make $300k. very many in bay area average decaying shack in bay area is $2M in safe neighborhood. there are no more starter SFH here. so $300k is not great income in bay area.
asking without your TC? smh
Every poll option is correct…
you can easily look this up in government data https://www.census.gov/library/publications/2023/demo/p60-279.html
