I recently got laid off and was on vacation while it happened. Which meant that I had no time to send myself my work (I know. I should have backed it up in the first place-hard lesson learned). Anyway, I have been working on my portfolio, recreating my work and it's taken a bit of time. A recruiter has reached out to me to schedule a call but my portfolio won't be done until later this week. Is it alright to communicate that to them? Or no? Thanks for any help. I wouldn't tell them, that too much info lol. Just schedule the meeting for a time when your portfolio will be done and haul ass. Good luck with the interview.
I have told sooooooo many recruiters that I’m wrapping up my portfolio and is it okay to send it by X day (calculate when you will be actually done) if recruiters really want to get you through the funnel, they’ll wait, and have waited in my experience. So yes! You can tell your recruiter, but I guess it depends on the candidate pool.
Thanks so much for your response. This made me feel a lot better haha. However think I could ask you this - told them I'd be done by tomorrow, Friday, but I actually don't think I'll be done till Monday. Could I communicate that with them? Or should I try and push it out by tomorrow (would be very late evening if so)? The recruiter seems to be pretty interested.
If you already communicated with them you’d send on Friday, I’d stick to that. Try working overtime and get it pushed out by the date you said you would. Going back and changing dates on them comes a bit unprofessional. What id say is send it out tomorrow (sounds like you will be done end of day) recruiters most likely will see it first thing Monday. So you have the weekend to actually work on your updates - assuming it’s a portfolio website and not a PDF you are sending over to them.
It’s completely okay. Don’t sweat it.
I appreciate it. Thanks so much.
