In almost a decade since I have lived here, nothing has moved this quickly… healthcare, education, racism… nothing But within three months, tiktok is banned, ~100 b in aid, and now this… coz youngsters are aware and protesting a genocide. this bs policy contradicts the first amendment, how are we ok this??? A foreign country dictating the rights of protest on US citizens… https://www.npr.org/2024/05/02/1247374244/house-passes-bill-aimed-to-combat-antisemitism-amid-college-unrest TC: 400
Take it up with the courts if you feel there is a constitutional issue - that's how it works. There are plenty of title VI disputes, some of which even bubble up to the supreme court in landmark cases I'm not sure if you have issue with title VI in principle (Congress mandates specific anti discrimination requirements on schools that receive federal funding beyond what is the minimum requirement across all businesses). Any school that does not receive federal funds doesn't have to abide by title VI Besides that general point, I see you like to create a false narrative that this law prevents protest (which it absolutely does not), and that Israel dictated this to a large bipartisan majority. I can understand people with antisemitic views would not like laws that prevent schools from allowing this on their campuses, so I guess this is WAI that these beliefs, while still exist all over the world and are not outlawed, will not be tolerated openly in schools that receive federal funding. If it's very important that you or your kids go to a school that can be open with hate speech against various groups of people, I'm sure there are some that exist without federal funding, though they may not be considered top universities
Also i forgot to add - you are even incorrectly assuming this was a quick change to policy. It's actually been drawn out for awhile, as ~5 years ago there was an executive action making this definition a guideline, though not a legal requirement, for title VI. See https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-combating-anti-semitism/ So no, this wasn't some thing on a whim from left field, as you implied. It's also a much simpler change for Congress to do then, say, revamp the healthcare regulations. What a crazy comparison in terms of complexity
“ and that Israel dictated this to a large bipartisan majority. I can understand people with antisemitic views” this is exactly the issue, you don’t separate Zionists from Jews… Many Jewish students also protested alongside pro-Palestine students, Zionists by definition are racist and colonial in nature, this law will make it a crime to criticize the war crimes by Zionists, anti-semite laws already exist, this law will make it unlawful to criticize Zionists and their policies. Also; we are happy funding a genocide half way across the globe and support the perpetrators unconditionally and shield them from persecution… BUT god forbid, kids in colleges protest this genocide and call the university to cut ties from this genocidal nation… Oh NO, we have to stop em even if we have to resort to violence, against our own citizens, glad the young generation isn’t falling for this bs. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/ucla-student-encampment-attack-pro-israel-1235013151/amp/
Imagine being so pro-Hamas that you’re actually upset at the government for combatting antisemitism.
Are you retarded? Or just willfully foolish? What part of my post says I support that terror outfit, I am pointing out the fact that criticizing a foreign country is being made unlawful… at the expense of my first amendment right… Just coz you like a genocide, and the new hitler coz he lOoKs like YUo, I don’t have to, and I should have every right to protest it. And stfu about the antisemitism bs, the Palestinians that IDF is butchering are also semites, that word has lost all its meaning coz of people like you; any criticism of Israel is not antisemitism, but I don’t expect you to have the critical mind capacity to differentiate.
Misinformation again - ihra definition explicitly states that criticism of Israel is not antisemitism - even if someone does say something antisemitic, there is nothing illegal about such hate speech, either before or after this law. This law is making explicit the antisemitism aspect of title VI that was already a guideline for title VI enforcement but simply formalizes it into law. Title VI is about federal funding of schools and an important part of the civil rights act of 1964. Schools and people do not break the law in title VI, it's about which schools can get federal funding. This has been through the courts many times and there does not seem to be any obvious first amendment issue here, but of course anyone is welcome to have a legal argument if the federal government must find schools that tolerate discriminatory actions
Simply shameful.
This law seems superfluous and unnecessary. Though I did find the following quote pretty funny given the number of times I've called out Netanyahu and the Israeli government and been called an antisemitic for it. I guess it's safe to say that the pro-Israel crowd is anything but reasonable. Thanks for the laugh, OP. "If you can figure out how to critique the policies and practices of the Israeli government without calling for the destruction of Israel itself, then no reasonable person would ever accuse you of antisemitism," he added.
Everyone boasts about freedom of speech except when it comes to saying anything about Israel lol Just imagine if the black and latino community got even a quarter of this attention ..
Unless you're an antisemite you support this bill...
Stupid goyim. Israel makes my estrogen, without it I cannot be a trans woman. So, I fully agree with these measures.
Guess the westerners can only learn it the hard way that they’ve brainwashed by their governments’ propaganda of their superiority on free speech, human rights, blah blah.

They crossed the line. It’s not rights of protest. You don’t protest by destroying properties and affecting people’s lives and works.
Meh try harder
The peaceful protesters on the lawn in Texas were kicked off the lawn and then arrested by cops. No property was destroyed, no walkways blocked.
