I'm considering applying for Program Management roles and wondering about overall thoughts on MS
Every Microsoft person I know asks me for a referral and would switch in an instant if they received an offer
Depends on the team and org. Azure was a total sh*tshow. Zero WLB, extreme stress (if you wanted to keep your job), low pay, a**hole teammates who won't share information and abusive managers. Other than that it was great :)
Pay is trash for senior levels but overall it’s pretty chill with good benefits for most teams. Some Azure and Teams teams I know have bad wlb and on calls.
It’s really all about the team. There are some really great teams and great leaders, then are some real tools out there so BEWARE. Get a lot of feedback from the team before making a decision. Good luck!
Highly team dependent for culture, WLB and promotion velocity. But expect working for peanuts and no yearly meaningful refreshers. PMs at MSFT get the best deal. Lots of power with no responsibility and accountability
Honestly surprised to see many people want to get out. If you can make connections and value work life balance this is the place to be. It might not pay what FAANG is paying but I don’t want to sacrifice my entire life for extra money.
Maybe they're all in that Azure team a previous commenter mentioned...
Op, that is not completely true. Know your pace of work and the type of colleagues you want to work with. If you can't stand politics, boot licking, bureaucracy and mediocre colleagues then stay away. You get what you are paid for.
So chill. 100% remote. 300k. 25hr / week. Not losing sleep while on call. Friends and former colleagues in FAANG are making a bit more, but also working significantly more with more stress.
Stay away…. The ONLY good thing that’s left of this company is fully remote or fully wfh. But if another company gives you 50% more TC would you not take that? Don’t ever assume msft is chill great wlb heaven. ymmv and I’d say since last year good wlb teams have vanished. What you get is a company that happily pays you less, gives you no base raise during inflation, stingy on bonuses, makes you work hard for 10% meets all rating because “10% is the new 120” lol The only reason I am still here is cuz market is bad and I haven’t been able to crack FAANG interviews. Just like the rest of us here lmao. I can bet 50% of the employees would leave tomorrow if they got a respectable TC bump at any other company (not even faang) and they are here because they are failing interviews or are too lazy to interview.
Thanks all for your inputs. Based on the poll results so far I think it can indeed be said that this really depends on the team you're on, like most of you have said.
Amazon, don't come here, please.
Oh, c'mon..share the fun
