@Qualcom, you're right about the literal meaning. Since this word is associated with Islam, it is used as "strive for Islam". That is perceived as terrorism in social conversations. Whenever you hear "Jihad", it usually associates Terrorism and "Jihadi" are the ones actually doing it (terrorists).
When Modi-Yogi make the same announcements you see it fine, but when a Muslim leader does the same you are running around with jihad-fobia. Both are wrong, politics should never be on religion and caste. But we are nowhere near that state.
