It’s like I’m following in my dad’s footsteps and I don’t like how much control over your work/living location these institutions have when you work for them. Working at auto co’s you gotta live near the ugly ass manufacturing plants, or working for governments you have to use outdated technology and it feels like you get stuck working on legacy systems no one else wants to work with and there’s no escape. I want to move out of the US so bad
Move out west to CA and join a startup. Eventually y oh can move to one of the big Cos out here
I get calls for California from recruiters all the time but the rates they offer are always 🥜 With the Cali recruiters it feels like they’re targeting h1b employees who will work for much less
i mean yeah that’ll be the trade off here. You might make less short term but you’ll work on exciting stuff and pay will catch up
I’m realizing this post is not going to go anywhere and I just want to complain lol. I need to eat breakfast and stop being a grouch
Work for the govt, they offer incredible wlb. Also lookup getting a TSC security clearance, that’s always jn demand at big tech
I am getting closer and closer to accepting my fate as a henchmen for the US government yes. Not excited about it at all tho. WLB doesn’t even seem that good for the roles I am getting recruiters for. Mainly contract roles working on my state governments cloud infrastructure, which I cannot think of a more boring job. Every now and then recruiters for the state come to me for $100/hr jobs in the backwoods city my states capital is in and it’s getting harder to say no. I say no bc it seems like a short term gain but long term loss to work on the legacy systems these governments use since so few other places do which makes it harder to get other jobs and escape.
Ah ymmv, i was going to recommend federal gov roles. Back east, DC/ VA and the rest, it’s gov jobs galore. Contractors’ paradise. Some like the wlb, some are biding their time till the market gets competitive.
Do you honestly think the “country” is to blame for your termination and job struggles?
No. Not sure where you got that from. I don’t want to live in the US, so working for the US government seems counter intuitive to that goal
Then why don’t you move?
If you want to leave the U.S., just do it. Depending on the country, you should be able to find a decent job there and live like a king. Just do your research regarding the terms of your work visa and citizenship if you want to become a citizen there.
he is a us citizen lol you can’t get clearance without being us citizen
I’ve thought about this. Need to save more money tho which involves getting a job somewhere that I don’t want as a temporary measure, which is just very hard on me mentally atm.
You need a lot of growing up. If you want freedom, make FU money and then do whatever you want.
This is a weird comment, that doesn’t even feel relevant but sure. I ain’t going to make FU money at an auto company or government that’s for sure
If you think work situation improves outside of America, you are not being real. Work isn't supposed to give you meaning of life. It is only to make money so that you can have a life after work.
I would try looking for only remote roles both in and out of the US. I’ve heard that some international firms were scooping up US workers, so try targeting startups abroad and see if you can’t work for them. The TC may be lower, but being fully remote will allow you to put work around your life rather than life around work. Best of luck! TC: 105K
Ive kinda half ass tried this with the website Xing. It’s just so damn competitive.

Go through OMSCS and get into tech
I already have a bachelors in information science from university of Michigan. If I’m going back to school I’m going to a university outside the US because I don’t want to live here
It’s a remote grad school you can do it anywhere lol and it’ll boost your resume for tech roles Just grind it part time while you work
