Every tech interview asks either arbitrary knowledge based questions that are not important for success or asks coding questions which are solvable but not under time pressure with the optimal solution. As an engineer who worked in Amazon for 3 years before getting laid off I am finding this to be very frustrating. It’s no longer a market where you do well in the interviews and get the job but a market with heavy competition whether a small slip up can make you look worse than the other guy and cost you the offer. How do I navigate in this field where there’s too many things to learn and 3-4 rounds of tech screens to pass? On top of that getting the interview is another major hurdle in and of itself Prev TC: $180k Also, DM me if you want to interview prep together. Looking for interview prep buddies to navigate this more effectively.
Adapt, instead of complain
Adapting takes time and trial and error. Within my 1st month of unemployment I have learned a lot about system design and LC problem solving so it’s just a matter of time before I can land the job but my god it has gotten 2x as difficult to land a job
Eh, its been like this except 2021. I usually dont respect those who joined a company in 2021
So are you saying that the interview prep you did for getting into Amazon is longer enough to get into Faang any more. Its more difficult now?
Lower your expectations. Ex Amazon engineer here, Amazon has a low hiring bar and it's harder to get into other big tech companies. Try companies which you wouldn't normally apply, and you should be able to do well.
I agree. I was getting rejected by every other company until April 2021 when I got my Amazon offer
How did you get into Amazon without being able to knock out LC style interview?
Their questions were not harder than the average LC medium
Right there with you, 3 months and 300 applications. 1 interview and 0 offers. Was with the same company for 7 years which might be a knock on me, but only had 6 months of exp. back then and landed that job way quicker.
Totally feel you. But it might be difficult getting into smaller companies too when they you worked at Amazon. I've had that happen when I interviewed for roles in other industries and pay much less, the HM asked upfront whether my expectations on data infrastructure would be too high given that I worked at a FAANG.
I feel you. Facing the same
