What does it mean to have a bunch of McKinsey contractors hired in "strategy" roles

Is it usual to have a bunch of contractors hired from McKinsey in any company for "strategy" roles? I don't know what that means. Is this usually a precursor to layoffs /reorg ? What is the need for so many contracts especially for strategy and ops. TC:240k and falling

Most likely restructuring or layoff, I hate these consultants!!!

Bunch of consultants hired to suggest a fix when their firms themselves require fixing starting with basic ethics.

I’ve seen all of those possibilities come out of bringing on consultant companies. One large company who is no longer in business had McKinsey, BCG & PWC all hired on and were unknowingly overlapping each other in their “strategy” work. The company brought them on because they thought it would help them do better work faster. Hilarious.

It's either layoffs or potential huge strategy change like M&A. You'd have to use context on how the company is doing. I found shittier consultants like PWC were more likely to be layoffs but that's not always true.

That, or sometimes management has decided to do something that will be perceived as "bad", so they need to hire some fall guys to take the blame for a decision that's already practically been made.

I think I remembered McKinsey was consulting Boeing. Don’t know if that has anything to do with the airplanes falling apart.
