1.8M in Santa Clara vs 330K in DFW suburbs vs 1.2M in DFW suburbs “buT tHiS iS sAn FrAnsIscO” edit: “buT tHiS iS ThE bAy AReA” Still funny. 1.8M and the whole family has to share a full bath lmaoooo TC enough for the 330K house and not much more edit 2: plz dont get offended. You make more than me and like CA, I make 🥜 and I like TX, but inside, we are all the same and all believe in the power of friendship. Laugh at the 1.8M crack den and move on with your day.
There's a reason it's cheap in Texas. It's IN Texas.
And?
Suppy and demand. I guess no one wants to live there.
Me, I love being boiled alive To be fair, the weather and our politics are the two biggest drawbacks to being here. Although it’s not like CA politics are better, they suck in a lot of ways as well
Agreed, CA politics leave a lot to be desired, particularly in crime/enforcement. But I’ve personally not experienced problems and besides the state tax, the weather and nature is such a massive benefit.
It's Texas lol. Unlimited supply
Pretty much, yeah. Sometimes I wish more of the top $$$ tech companies would open offices here but then we’d have $1.8M crack dens, no middle class, higher crime, and stink of literal pööp, and my rent wouldn’t be so cheap
Lol bro. You forget the price is the Land and the house. The land is 1.4m and the house is 400k. It's reason why it's 1.8m.
It's hard to imagine what's going to eventually happen. Shacks for 10M or some sort of RE collapse in the Bay Area? Insane prices.
Agreed. WeMre nearing the point of “we make $500K but we can’t find a house that isn’t crime ridden and has enough space for my family within a 45 minute commute of [insert company here] offices”
That house you're mocking is a 5 minute drive to apple HQ, and 25 minutes to Google's right now at 6pm. How's your commute? Before I moved to the Bay area my commute was over an hour door to door and I hated it. House was cheap, sure.
I get that. It’s in a very desirable location, great proximity to the big companies. My commute is about 15 seconds and 20 steps from my bedroom to my study
I found a lot of nice houses all over America for less than $200k. It’s somewhat my specialty. I would buy them and then rent them out at exorbitant rent prices like near $2000/mo. Usually double the price of the mortgage. But living in the Bay Area is still the best. This is where all the money and the brain is.
All the money but you have to put up with a lot to get it
Not my problems. That’s property managers’ problems
A house purchase is painful for the first ten years. But the Bay Area pays you a premium for 40 years. I lived in Dallas and I loved it, but weather over there requires a bigger house because you'll be inside a lot. But I chose the Bay Area because after I pay off my house, I still make more twice as much than I could in Texas. That's millions of extra dollars for my kids.
Here I am turning down job offers in the Bay Area for huge pay raises bc I like Texas so much I had an offer last year when I was graduating at a startup for $220K, I’ll make $115K here this year My friends in the Bay Area make way more than me but they all hate it. I’ve referred a few to my company. They’re paying 3x more than they did for their college apartment, but the apartment is less than half the size and they’ve had car break ins and homeless tents outside
You chose strange comparison options. At least to me that is. Isn’t the more desirable areas of DFW places like Plano or Frisco or McKinney? Azle is super far away from the metro itself so if you aren’t remote I’m not sure what job you’d be getting there. Not to mention I bet the food wouldn’t be that great or diverse there. Southlake is at least closer and the price definitely reflects that.
Fair point. I’m remote and like living further outside the city Plano/Frisco is the most desired area in the metro. Those zip codes are well into MCOL territory, similar to Southlake. Southlake is more of a suburb tho, it’s just a bunch of huge expensive houses and high end restaurants and retail. Bunch of medical offices and hospitals as well. Plano/Frisco is less of a suburb and more of a city vibe, especially near Legacy west. Beautiful area, much better than Dallas.
West lake which is one of the desirable communities cost a shit ton and have to deal with Texas weather and literally nothing to do. No nice trails for hiking and no good national parks close by and don’t forget the exponentially lower TC
I don’t care much for hiking or national parks, I can travel for that. That definitely is a perk for the Bay Area if that stuff matters a lot to you The TC thing also sucks. You can’t make as much here. But I would argue you get a comparable or even better QoL here for 1/5 the TC. I’m trying to land HCOL based remote roles. It’s hard, but they’re out there. Making Bay Area money living here, you’re living like a king. Making Bay Area money in the Bay Area, you’re living like our lower middle class with HHI under 80K lol
But it’s not San Francisco…
Fine I’ll edit it
