What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
https://www.wsj.com/tech/apple-removes-whatsapp-threads-from-china-app-store-on-government-orders-a0c02100?st=mjijkzg2og31ug5&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink This seems suppper shady -- I mean I can see how telegram maybe? has an impact on antional security ,but this also seems like a way for China to further have censorship and maintain control -- what do you all think? Is this a legitimate removal for real security concerns? or is it scarier and concerning that China might be trying to tighten control over its people?
It’s same as Apple removing TikTok from AppStore for India. Disgusting anti democratic behaviors
What do you have to say about banning Chinese Fentanyl imports? Would that be anti democratic too?
These are not exactly the same. India banned tik tok because its a Chinese owned product and poses security concerns
Those apps don't allow their government to spy on every message their citizens send.
Y'all think the stupid political bill to take down TikTok will not backfire?
You should do a little more reading. These apps were already blocked and have been for years. All they’re doing now is removing it from the App Store, but they already didn’t work unless you used a VPN. The US should 100% block or force a divestment of TikTok. Even ignoring the shady aspects of the app they should treat Chinese companies how China treats American companies. There’s no reason to allow them to just freely access the US market when our apps can’t do the same there.
Yes, ban TikTok would be great. But, it should be written that way and not in the current way that it can be used to ban X next.
OP has no idea how China’s government operates and how all these apps interfere with their “Great Firewall”.
Forget TikTok, if we banning things for security concerns, we gotta start with Blind first. More company secrets are leaked here than anywhere else 😂.
The U.S. is not the only country. All companies have to follow local laws. If the UK ruled 2 day shipping was illegal, Amazon could not offer 2 day shipping to UK citizens.
Hahahahhahaah what a joke. When will US ban wechat and tiktok?
lol that’s a weird law. Why would 2 day shipping be illegal
OP why is it scary that China might be trying to tighten control. You should be worried only if you live there, which doesn’t seem like the case looking at your post
But in exchange, we get the Delta game emulator in the US.
banning tiktok has a similar line of government action
Having a monopoly on propaganda for their citizens is a major priority for the CCP. So it fits with their previous bans. I was surprised to hear WhatsApp wasn't already banned. They can't censor it so I assumed they had already banned it completely.
Of course it was banned already
Lets not kid ourselves. America is looking at China like Samsung looks at Apple in that they will criticize the decision while planning to do the same thing a few years later. The reasoning will probably be the latest boogeyman in the US
