Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager

After some time in the industry, I have learned to avoid those teams like a plague because - Due to visa situations, they will work ridiculous hours for the same advancement opportunities, thereby implicitly pressuring you to do the same - They will speak in their own language and make decisions without looping you into the process. - A manager who "hire their own" is usually biased whether they admit it or not DEI won't approve of this but you can thank me later #tech

I agree. Entirely.

I agree. They also have a way of working everyone has to adopt. If you don't you're wrong. No nee way of doing things. It must be done their way

Racism at its best

Bro … u can’t always know if u r going to have an Indian or Chinese filled team before joining that org .. even if that is the situation, why can’t u learn to work with them ??

Im only recently entering this industry but do you even get a say in what team you get placed on? I figured it was mostly just a “be ok with wherever we put you, or else” kind of thing

some companies allow team matching. sometimes you are lucky enough to get multiple offers. Choose wisely

I am an Indian and have grown and learned the most under an Indian manager. Of course, they pushed me but also gave me the room to make decisions and bring new ways to do things.

Yo, I’m brown and I will agree to this. Don’t do it. I avoid them as plague as well! They aren’t the best collaborators. What I’d call out is, there are two types of brown. The one who grew up here and the one who didn’t. I’d stay away from the one who didn’t grow up here. Their views are very myopic. Just my experience. Take it or leave it.

Seconded. Growing up here means you are more likely to have some cultural overlap. (Note: I’m not making value judgments about cultures, just that same/similar is easier to navigate)

There’s a 3rd “brown” that your two browns tend to be racist against or you call them “DEI hires”. Funny (sad) how racism exists within the brown world just as it does in and between other worlds.

May be organise a protest and get arrested just like what has happened recently. Hope that brings you peace.

This is 100% true. I avoid at all cost.

One more con of chinese team is they will not even speak in english. So you will get excluded in all technical talks.

Google mKeW65 OP Apr 24

precisely. Sometimes they don't even make an effort including you

was in on an all-indian or all chinese team as well? Also, Indian American/Chinese Americans are fine imo. It is usually the Indians/Chinese who came here after undergrad that is an issue. They complain about problems in their home country yet import them to America
