I WFH almost 2-3days a week and my wife says that my posture has gotten worse in the last couple of years (post-pandemic when I started hybrid). I took my picture from the side and it shows that my posture has gotten bad with stooping and hunching. I want to see a chiropractor but given the amazing health benefits, my health plan Kaiser does not cover chiropractors. It's frustrating because I will have to pay out of my pocket. Anyway, I wanted to see if any of you have developed a bad posture because of WFH and what can be done to fix it.
Bend over backwards
I’d recommend take an ergo assessment if work gives you one. If work doesn’t give you one, take it from an ortho Dr/PA-C
Is that typically covered by the insurance?
Depends on your insurance, generally you go to a PA/GP and ask them for an ortho referral. Then you go to the ortho and they give you what you need. If deductible is high, you have to pay cash, else it’s covered most of the time.
Would recommend physical therapy anytime over chiropractic manipulations!
Chiro won’t do shit. Do pt and workout
Yep, there's a reason why it's not covered
In office you already have a standing desk, get a standing desk for home as well. Work standing as long as you can. I do it for about 3-4 hours/day. Go to the gym, build your back, chest and shoulders. Be mindful, catch yourself whenever you are hunching. You will notice a difference in 3 months.
Nothing can be done. You will soon look like Ephialtes in the movie 300. I suggest divorcing and finding someone who is into hunchbacks.
Yoga is good for correcting posture imbalances The company Forme makes “posture wear” that looks like workout wear and I’ve actually found it quite helpful and wear it many work days A really good chair that can be adjusted to you is important too Chiro might be worth it and maybe you can get reimbursed via FSA? - a good one won’t try to keep you as a patient forever but will develop a plan based around your goals and the visit frequency will decrease as you improve.
I do yoga every day (or at least try to) it’s done wonders for my back and overall posture (I’ve only been doing it for half a year) It takes 20-30 minutes and honestly I’ve been feeling the mental benefits too! Great for stress
Chiropractor? If you want to die you can move to Canada and apply for MAID.
Work out, even push-ups and pull ups will help. Stretching and yoga will also help. Walk more. Use a standing desk. Literally do anything besides sitting on your butt.
