Bay Area housing: the people left may never be able to come back
It’s kind of big life decision unless you are retired. Yes, you leave for a lower cost of living area, and it feels great. What if later you find the weather is bad, the pay is too low, the job market is too cool? Just remember you may never ever be able to afford to come back. It should be an important factor to consider.

They don’t even want to come back. If they do, most likely it’s via subconscious peer pressure, or inability to adjust to new place. It appears that you simply want to justify your decision of paying high prices to secure a house/property. It’s only going downhill from here. :)
Seriously? Stay somewhere expensive because if you leave you might not be able to come back when it's more expensive? How about this? Don't leave and when it becomes more expensive you won't be able to afford it. How is that better?
Let’s say house price double in US in next 10 years. In low cost area. It’s 500k to 1M In Bay Area, it’s 2M to 4M.
You assume the appreciation will be uniform across all geographies. In addition, you assume prices will always go up.
The only good things about the bay are the weather and the job market Eventually people will realize that the weather isn’t all that important and the $$$ doesn’t get you shit there Leave the bay and be happy
