Well, just like pick up trucks, I don't find them appealing in the slightest: Looks: - Nice exteriors, but the fact that you see them everywhere, specially in the Seattle area, they now look boring and repetitive. This is a plus over the pick up trucks they are awful all around. Interiors: - They feel and look cheap. Having to use the screen for everything is distracting and doesn't look good, although I acknowledge that is subjective, just like the exterior looks. Handling: - Dead steering feel, like really dead, zero feedback at all. Way too heavy for their size. Nice low center of gravity, still they understeer and without feedback from the steering, tou really don't know what the front tires are doing. Power: - Well yeah, is like a one trick pony, insane acceleration, but also souless, no vibration, no sound. Even Tesla owners admit that this gets old after a while. Overall, they are not bad cars, but coming from sports cars, I don't find them interesting, not even the 3 ton Plad, that thing need larger brakes. I own an Evora GT and a M240i. TC: 410k
For the average person they don’t really care about all that, they want reliability, dependability, utility, and preferably fun to drive. Not a bad car for all that, but there are better options(Prius Prime in that segment)
They are economy cars. You don't buy an economy car to feel special other than not feeling like you're destroying the planet in a gas burner.
Imagine writing all this shit over a car you don’t even own. We get it, you’re a seething liberal and you’re really mad at Elon because he thought Covid mandates were bad and spoke out against the dear government. Yeah, he was right in hindsight, but how dare he question CNN! 🥱
Bruh they're leasing at under 300 a month. What were you expecting?
Really? That low? Model 3 RWD?
Not really, most of it is deception by Tesla. It’s only under 300 if you exclude down payment, taxes and fees which adds up to 7-8k, as well as include “potential savings” which is BS.
“You see them everywhere” That’s because you have frequency bias. Change your focus to spotting Nissan Altima.
Hmm I think you will find more Teslas in Redmond/Bellevue than Altimas or any other brand. Might be specific to this area, just like the valley. I agree that if you drive further away, you won't find as many. But I made the question here in Blind where I know people drive Teslas.
The fact that you wrote up a long post about this tells that there’s heavy frequency bias in your head for Teslas. There may be another car that’s more frequent on roads around you - maybe Prius or Camry. However, your brain ignores them when you see them. The more you spot Teslas the stronger your frequency bias. You have been thinking about teslas a lot. Buy one already. I currently have a strong frequency bias for boxy SUVs. I am in mid-COL where teslas are a galore as well. I have one. However, the more I’ve been attracted to the new boxy SUV designs the more I am seeing them. I see so many G-wagons, Rivians, Defenders, and Broncos when I am driving. It feels to me that these are the only cars on the road these days but that’s absolutely false.
Yes, I feel special. I am 40+ and over the course of my life, I’ve learned to value low-noise-high-output people and machines. The more humble, low-profile, high output and minimalist I try to be, the more I end up liking Teslas! Details: 1. Looks: Model S Plaid is as sexy as it gets in a sedan. It doesn’t have car model name on its back, but a Plaid moniker only. Like, supreme flex that you just know me. Sports cars indeed look more sexy, but they scream “middle age crisis” for people in 40s and above. 2. Interior: Model Y and S look immaculate: minimalistic yet fully functional. I do agree that I miss the side view mirror buttons from older versions of Model S. The fact that we no longer need hand brakes, power button, gear knobs/buttons, LKAS button, Cruise control buttons, volume buttons, steering adjustment buttons etc speaks volumes about futuristic nature of the car! 3. Handling: Always. In. Control! Regen braking is so futuristic that I rarely use the brake pedal. The accelerator pedal alone is sufficient to drive and handle the car. The steering is relatively small yet has stiff feel like BMWs and sports cars. The acceleration is crazy even in Model 3. Heck Plaid acceleration feels like a glitch in the Matrix! The FSD feature is literally mind blowing. Normal cars can’t even reliably detect lanes, let alone drive automatically. 4. Power: Can’t beat a machine quietly running at 1000+ HP. This is as best as it gets. Quiet. and. powerful. Model X and Cybertruck straight up seem to be from Sci Fi movies. Incredible machines! ICE cars are for those who are in love with loud gasoline engines. Just like men used to love horses long after cars were common. Heck, we still love horses. They are wonderful, lovely, strong creatures. Likewise, ICE cars will be loved for a long long time too. Doesn’t mean people don’t feel special in Teslas.
That was an honest reply, thanks for taking the time.
I have both Y Performance and Long Range. Perf is a day and night compared to LR. In a good way. I wouldn’t buy a non fully packed model.
If Tesla were ICE cars they would cost 20k.
Yep, you’re right. If Tesla’s were slow, smelly, unreliable, and needed to be filled up with flammable liquids all the time then yeah – they would be 20 K.
Even that wont be possible. You barely get 160 hp for 20 grand. Tesla doesn’t make 160 hp cars.
I had BMWs - 340, X2 m35 and infiniti g37 in the past. Very good handling for city cars! Fun to drive. Now I have a Model 3. I don’t feel special but I realized that as a commute car - cost, acceleration and safety are my top needs and Model 3 met those. Oh and I don’t have to buy a stupid “package” to add adaptive cruise contra or lane departure warning.
Do you feel special that you wrote that out?
No, just asking.
