Meta Lavontay May 7

Naw we gotta work. Just not overly effective sometimes

Grafana Labs pati44 May 9

bs job is not about doing no work. It is about the work being about pretending to do something useful while actually just playing the psc game. Does that ring a bell?

Meta Lavontay May 9

Bro wtf is even Granada lands

You know who doesn’t do any work either? Has been tech founders living off their 100M+ stock portfolio. Oh the big tech employees are stealing money from grandma’s retirement account? The nerve of this fucking guy. The guy sold a company to Cisco for $635M cash. Was it actually worth that much or was he stealing from Cisco shareholders too?

Wise Ltd. mauriceda1 May 7

Cisco don’t have the best track record for acquisitions. They purchased OpenDNS as there was a gap in their security portfolio. Not this guy’s fault that they paid that money. However, he owes his fortune to some really smart engineers who worked on that product and he made good hires into that company. Read the interview. His main issue is with the managerial class and he makes some valid points. The headline is a bit clickbaity though.

Fungible DPU_dreams May 8

@Wise Ltd. What do you mean? Don't you remember the Flip? "The device, which is a little bigger than a deck of cards and has a built-in USB connection, was designed to provide an easy and simple way to take video and upload it to the Internet..." https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/cisco-buys-flip-video-maker-for-590-million/

I do some quality assurance work for Google on a generative AI product as part of Remotasks. They make us use an app that tracks our activity and takes screenshots at least every 5 minutes, but also randomly as well. Mouse/keyboard activity is also monitored and if we are inactive for about 7 minutes, we are automatically logged out from the tracking software and deemed to not be working. Sure sounds nice if I could be a full-time Google employee (or even TVC as even the technical documentation mentions that only other vendors like Scale AI, Tech Mahindra, etc are monitored for time) and be able to prepare a quick snack or something without getting logged out from working 😅 If I want to get paid for 8 hours of work, I have to actively put in those 8 hours. TC: $50/hr (there's no guarantee of work/there's been many times where there's been some complication or another, so it's not exactly a stable role and would be better called side income)

Two-tiered society. You’re one of the serfs. Get back to work.

Remotasks usc_uwgrad May 7

Yes, just the lowly gay afro-latino that isn't good enough for Google proper (or even TVC) 😅

Apple Palutena May 7

Because Google is more open I can confirm I met a ton of slackers there. Apple is far too siloed for any person that’s not an executive to get a good picture imo. My team ( IS&T ) works too much unfortunately
