Has anyone had a job offer revoked after asking for a signing bonus?

I got a verbal job offer about a week and a half ago, asked about equity (not at this time, I was told) and a signing bonus. The recruiter, external to the company, asked me to justify the signing bonus. I sent a bulleted list of possible justifications. he hasn’t exactly ghosted me, but he is not being very communicative since, and this was early this week. I asked if there is any update and he said no, rather dryly. Am I an asshole for asking? This has been dragging on since they first contacted me in mid February. Prepared at this point for them to revoke the offer, but it would really piss me off. Has this happened to anyone?

yes. I stopped negotiation since. My mom used to say “don’t leave money on the table”, my mom didn’t know about overemployment. The game has changed, don’t worry about 5-10% annual comp increases when you can have 100% of the salary with two remote roles.

With more companies expecting people to be in the office 3-5 days a week, overemploynent is quickly becoming a footnote in history.

I’m not able to get two FAANG jobs, but I can get two or three mid market or startup jobs. Its the same as a good FAANG

It’s an employer’s market. It’s very hard to negotiate without a counter offer from a competitor. But be prepared to walk away if you try

Yes - asking for a hiring bonus is definitely asshole behavior. My colleagues in big tech absolutely revoke offers when people ask for them. Hope you learned your lesson.

This is a fact mate. Ignore the MAANA fool who doesn't know how the real world works.

Yes that happens and no you have the right to ask

You can usually ask, and as long as you do so in a flexible, polite, and productive way, it typically won't affect your outstanding offer. But to clarify, once you negotiate a counter offer you are effectively declining their initial offer, so they're not revoking anything. But never negotiate unless you're willing to walk away.

I can’t comment until I know your bullets that you sent in the response.

When I'm unemployed companies give me a probationary offer. I state that is unacceptable. They try to clarify and ask me to join. At that point I ask for compensation for the probation as a joining bonus. You have to play by the words of an offer letter once given and not even on a competing offer

Is this for real? What country are you in?

Yes. Have done this multiple times. India
