Given the impressive tech job market growth in India in recent years, I am contemplating if I should eventually try to move there at at some point. It's also very close to my home (Bangladesh). Being closer to my aging parents would definitely be a big plus. So I am curious to learn what you guys think about how accepting Indian society is to general outsiders. Also, are the startups and mid sized tech companies there generally willing to hire and sponsor people? Note, I am currently in the US. Massive paycut, obviously.
You'll learn what racism really is when you step out of the western world.
Explain
When you step out of the western world, you'll learn what real racism is.
I wouldn’t recommend primarily coz 1. Political climate will be against you considering your nationality and religion. 2. Infrastructure in big cities are pathetic to say the least. You’ll spend hours in traffic commuting everyday. 3. WLB and work culture isn’t great, Indians come from very competitive backgrounds and bring the same to work. Workplace politics and backstabbing is very common as everyone are in a race to outperform each other.
Given you aren't an Indian, nobody will rent their house to you to start with
Don’t believe this. Nobody refuses good money
plenty of Muslims have issues renting in good localities in India
This will be new to us! It has never happened since the English left Indian subcontinent, which includes Bangladesh too! We Indians are not used to seeing outsiders settling/working here. Really don’t know how our people will react to this. Since you are from Bangladesh, you are fairly familiar to the culture, that’s on the positive side. i dont see anything other than this. west bengal might be a better option for you, but then even west-bengalis left west bengal due to lack of opportunities. sometimes my feeling echoes with the memes "india is not for beginners"!
Remember that India is 12x more densely populated. All the Quality of Life issues are 12x magnified if not less. There is no such thing as personal space because people growing up got used to the lifestyle where being nosey is normal, talking about politics is normal, staring everyone is normal because there's just no void space to look at. If you love too many people into your life you're gonna love it (house, neighborhood, streets, traffic, office, parking lot, sidewalk, etc.) Otherwise it'll feel like madness.
When I started my career, a few from Sri Lanka were with me at the IBM office. Given that you’re a Bengali, it won’t be that tough.
Troll post
It most definitely is not. I don't particularly have a tie to the US. The pay is nice, but I am not as strongly motivated by it. Given how bad the tech job market is in my home country and that I was to live relatively close to home, India sounds like one of the very few viable options for me
This may very well be troll post given if your TC is real. For people who are actually considering moving from countries, including some Europeans. I would imagine you will be treated fairly, being an odd one. Sympathy. Given that the unemployment rate is so high, locals may not welcome outsiders. You can see US locals starting to complain about h1bs as soon as their jobs are getting affected. As long as you blend with locals speaking their language, being respectful of their culture, you won't have a problem. For instance, in Tamil Nadu, you can see politicians and movie stars who are actually from other states and spoke broken Tamil. While you see people complaining about hindi not getting accepted there. Be the first group. Just an eg., i am not from TN

I feel poor with +200k TC in New York
lol. Sorry that would be a bad idea
Can you kindly briefly explain why?
Indian government is not focused on development. Only care about ensuring they stay in power. They will and already do turn people against others to play victim and win votes. Immigrants are an easy target. I’d personally welcome you but be warned that the whole societal, political and economic system will work against you. Take care. Hope it turns out well for you.
