Israel prevents Palestinians from gathering rainwater? Seems wrong on so many levels to me
I don't know what's wrong with me and how I can get out of this funk. I lost all hobbies so I can dedicate more to work, my entire identity feels like Meta, and I'm so burnt out I fantasize about quitting. But golden handcuffs and financial mindset (I grew up poor) have me scared to pull the trigger. Any advice? TC: 600k+
True.. I used to be so soo happy when I was earning less.
Because money isn't everything (your job is probably a shitty job with untrustworthy people), golden handcuffs are real and you only learn about these when you arrive in that situation.
Before the handcuffs, I remember I'd use to say "I'll never make decisions based on money!" Then I walked into real, life-changing money.
Lower paying (say $200k) jobs are so much mentally freeing because you can easily start hunting for a new one. Not leaving much on the table. Higher paying jobs are great but can easily turn toxic because you mentally don't want to be there any longer but you can't leave so much on the table.
My team requires 60-70 hour weeks to get MA. Reporting chain is toxic. I sacrificed my physical and mental health to keep up. I’m looking forward to getting booted so that I can find something else

Level and yoe?
I left my high TC for a 50% cut. Now work 2-4hrs a day. Monday and Friday off. I didn’t know what to do with all this free time. Got depressed b/c of new time and low TC. Then, all of a sudden, I find myself actually enjoying my work, free time, and my life.
so you ended up happy finally in the low TC job? What changed between last 2 sentences?
Life. The simple things. Like actually getting to know my neighbor. Riding my bike around town instead of driving. Driving in the slow lane. Etc. Life. I live in the same house. Same car. Same everything expect my paycheck.
If you're an introvert, take a few weeks vacation where you do nothing but chill alone. I'm not making anywhere near your tc, so I might not relate perfectly, but I found that going to social gatherings/events while burnt out from work burns me out even more. Once I took some time out to relax alone, it really helped me finally feel rested enough to go back to work. Do some chill activities, and don't chase dopamine all the time
Go skydiving
Been there, done that. I highly recommend it in Hawaii or Dubai!
Any advice to a junior who wants to maximize their comp ASAP? TC:200 YoE: 2
Take OPs job from him.
I love people like Google. “Maximize their comp ASAP!!!!!!!” The rush and urgency is hilarious, 😂 they want to start making $700k from the third year, while having at best mediocre skills.
