iPhone and Apple products are now iron age products. It's time to upgrade with ai and sdt.

And you think GM will do that?

Fidelity Investments madascow May 1

No. Not GM.

As if EVs weren’t popular enough, getting rid of native support for something that almost everybody uses in favor of a subscription service that offers less functionality and support is almost a death knell for sales. If the average consumer is already sour on EVs, why would you eliminate the one feature that could possibly get them to purchase your brand? TC: 105K

Not supporting carplay would be a reason I'd avoid buying a car. Stupid move.

Yeah same - it’s immediately a deal breaker I don’t want to deal with some bs custom half assed mapping software or getting my music playing

Long-time GM customer here, won't be buying a new GM if AA/carplay not supported

CarPlay is a must-have feature for me now. GM ditching CarPlay means I never buy a car from them anymore

It's probably the right business decision for GM to go ahead and bite the bullet on this now before Apple owns the user interface of their vehicles and that consumer touch point. As a consumer, GM would have to seriously blow Apple CarPlay out of the water for me to even consider their vehicles as an option. But their prior attempts at infotainment systems and their lax protection of user privacy doesn't give me any hope for that outcome.

Bought a new car for the first time ever. CarPlay support was a requirement. Dumb business decision. GM is not a hardware/software developer and pretending they can produce anything comparable to CarPlay is a joke. Remember all the pre-CarPlay UIs? Yeah, gross.

So they’re going to go with a. Subscription for a shitty ui and without the seamless integration. Did Elon end up at Gm or something?

Microsoft top kek 🤣 May 1

Yeah nahh I don’t get why vehicle manufacturers do this, it’s a waste of engineering effort to create ur own infotainment unless ur already basically a tech company like Tesla

It’s Android, not their own system. And that means Google maps is tightly integrated.

Rivian $Batman$ May 1

@Dy57fh That’s not true, Android that runs in cars is AAOSP. There is no free GMaps integration in it, Google charges money (per car) to enable maps access with AAOSP.

Microsoft Dy57fh May 1

The cars will run Android natively. The integration you get is better than car play.
