Was a bit lucky and cleared the Meta E6 rounds recently and moved into the team match process for 2 weeks now. Haven't had any traction yet. Did some research recently and found that people are waiting like crazy in the pool. Some folks have been in this for months now... (this is for all levels across the board from e3 to e6). Since my current job isn't bad and have conversations with companies like Netflix and Airbnb, I am wondering is it really worth such a long waiting time? First time in this sort of stuff, to be honest, it can be frustrating, especially if you were super happy knowing you have cleared the interviews and then another long process in front you which you have even less control... I know companies like Google have had this for a while, but is it really fair for the candidates? I would say within a month is reasonable but several months is like crazy. People's lives can change a lot in that length of time. What do you guys think? I personally still prefer to join Meta and still buy its potential. Also seems it's still one of the most attractive in the industry. So do you think it's worth it? If yes, what do you think is so attractive of the company? If not, what's your opinions? TBH, there are many negative comments about the company as well... Sorry don't want to disclose my employer since want to avoid of risk managers seeing. TC: ~530k
Netflix is not giving out E6+ offers. So worth the wait if level is important to you.
Yeah, it seems like this. From compensation perspective would N get close to Meta E6? How hard is it get promoted in N?
Promotion: very hard. They can get beat E6 comp from Meta but only for E6 at Netflix. E6 at N will also be more scope than E6 than Meta. Check an E6 position on N website. Salary ranges are posted there.
Grass is always greener somewhere else. I would not wait. The hiring processes are absolutely rubbish in nowadays. If you have an offer that is satisfying you then go for it. I know from my own experience that this is all bs. Employer branding and our own imagination is killing our judgement. I worked my ass off to join Google… After months of preparations (LC didn’t exist that time), I passed all stages… and… I worked at absolutely ridiculous projects… boring… nothing spectacular… I was pissed at myself… I wanted to join SEALS of IT engineering… and it wasn’t worth it. I had better (it terms of career progression) opportunities but I still wanted to join Google. If you have other options then don’t wait…
Thanks for the advice. Hope you are in a much better position now.
Post-layoff Meta is nothing special now.
How many yoe? Can you please share how you prepared? Top 100 meta questions on LC? What about SD?
9+, I think top 100 is enough, but make sure you fully understand and prepared for each of the major type such as bfs, dfs, devide-and-conquer, etc. SD for me I chose to solidify my fundamentals. I took longer time to careful read once DDIA and rest is just educative and Alex Xu.
Thanks. I have completed Neetcode 150, not that I remember all of it. Retention is a major issue at my age (47). Going through fb to 100 now. I’ve read DDIA fully, volume 1 of Alex and advanced grokking where they summarize some important papers. Is Alex Xu volume 2 worth it? Any tips to crack e6/7? (I’ve 22 yoe)
I'd interview still. I was in match there about a month ago at E/L6 and it took a few weeks. Get other offers bc you will want to negotiate from their starting offer (hint: it won't be awesome). I think being through HC and in match at google helped move the offer. Eventually negotiated something I'm happy with (and still waiting on google). Don't take your foot off the gas until you are across the finish line.
Definitely worth it, hard to beat the comp, and E6 are basically kings here, expectations are high, and you'll need to prove your worth through your output and impact, but as long as you are meeting expectations everyone will follow your lead, including your manager
Great to hear. I also figured the interview can be an easy thing compared to the actual work.
That’s quite the essay. You showed up at the black hole of tech negativity looking for a pep talk? You know what time it is fam. Given your tc you should be experienced enough to make decisions for yourself and not rely on strangers
In same boat. Waiting for 2 weeks for E5 and so far only talked to one team (which didn't work out).
Best of luck and hope we land soon.
I regret my decision to join meta every day
