Meta data scientist coding interview

Hi i have an upcoming initial screening for Meta Data scientist role. I am told that the screening will also include python coding. Does anyone know what type of coding questions should i prepare for python coding? #datascience

What language you use for data scientist work ?

For data manipulation, mostly sql and for modeling i use python. But for the screening they told me its going to be both, sql and python (or R)

I just used sql. Was given a choice. But generally DS python interviews are trivial - mostly designing functions for data manipulation and pandas. Occasionally I’ll see some basic questions w other data structures.

Examples?

Just look on youtube for faang ds interviews. There are no surprises.

Never heard of DS screening interviews with python code. Maybe this is new? I interviewed with Meta a couple of years ago. They let you choose you're language and ask SQL-like questions i.e. querying tables to fetch the right kind of data.

Search for neetcode YouTube channel, explained very well

Data science at meta means business analytics, not real data science. So it’s SQL.

Meta DS is really DS, but yeah it's not machine learning.

I’m curious, what’s ‘real’ data science? ML? AI? Analytics? All together? Who does it all together in one single job? Startups?

Just passed Meta DS technical screening, I only used SQL. Maybe clarify with your HR

Hey.. what kind of case study question is asked in screen. Is it related to A/B testing set up or analyze a drop in a particular metric.

For me it was around data structures

You’re typically allowed to choose which programming language you want to use. Ask your recruiter

ask clarifying questions and apply some business intuition. the coding itself wont be too complex, depending on your level if you get to the tough question thats usually a good sign.

They let you choose the language of your preference prior the screening. Common languages are SQL & Python for the DS screen at Meta. Talk to the recruiter to get this straight. If you get a Python question, it would be just like a SQL interview, pandas is all you might need if you know it well. Keep in mind that it’s not only how you code. Explain the intention of your code, reasoning behind the clauses or action you chose, and provide sound interpretation of the problem at hand. If you’re blocked mentally ask clarifying questions and go back to the problem statement to understand the situation. Good luck! 🍀
