Seriously, what does Netflix look at when reviewing job applications? Most, if not all, of the existing employees have previously worked at no-name companies that are at best tier-3 or tier-4. No shade on that. But I have -except once in the past- never been able to get a call back from them. Even that position got filled. I have Amazon, Google and Snap on my resume. TC: $580k
If you worked with one of their employees in the past. Online applications without strong referrals are useless.
That doesnāt sound like a good way to hire. Theyāre potentially missing out on many talented people just because they donāt have a reach inside. š¤Ø
Itās been the best way to hire for decades before the market flipped in favor of mediocre engineers. Watch and see it coming back again.
Read their culture memo and the part about āBrilliant Jerksā. You seem to fit that description perfectly š
Iām not. Snap puts big emphasis on not hiring brilliant jerks, and Iām not one by any standards. Just an observation.
you may be right. I have never interviewed at netflix and I donāt know what catches their attention. I wrote what I felt at a gut level with your āno name tier 3/4ā comment. You couldāve totally said the same by writing something like āworked at companies that donāt operate at the scale of faang level companiesā. Just jumped at me but I am no expert!
Maybe ask without comparing yourself? Maybe it's what you've done. Your resume keywords...or your network?
My entire team has big names and i was able to get a job wo referral
Because they do team based hiring, you end up with friends of friends getting hired.
This. Netflix hires by team. Nepotism hiring is a thing there in many teams. I know a few peers at Netflix. Honestly no different than peers at other tech companies. A few of my peers at Netflix only got into Netflix after one of my peers got in (so I presume referrals play a notable part there).
I was invited for an interview a couple of years ago after applying online. I didnāt get an offer back then. After that Iāve been consistently applying for most positions but no luck this time.
Every time I get referred to Netflix Iāve gotten interviews, Iāve never gotten an interview without a referral.
Were they from the same team hiring? I heard you can't refer people to other teams.
They werenāt from the same team. I think the big thing is that at Netflix you donāt get anything for referring someone and they expect you to only refer people you genuinely believe in. So people are more careful about referrals.
I got an interview without a referral or knowing anyone there, I just submitted my application online for a role I thought was interesting. Other than TikTok, no big tech names on my resume
Tik Tok is pretty substantial btw. Vs a no-name local shop or unknown startup.
So being at tier 3 or tier 4 companies is the key.
Are you suggesting OP should be able to make it there before applying at Netflux? :)
