What do you think? Should violent offenders be released without bail? Or should they be incarcerated until trial? From the article: A vicious and unprovoked sucker punch left a woman battered and shaken in Brooklyn, and while her wounds may recover, her fear may take longer to heal. Video shows the suspect ignore another man walking nearby, and then punch Pichardo in her face, causing her to stumble backwards. Her mouth is now wired shut after her face was fractured in several places. She will need to drinking food out of a straw for six weeks. Pichardo's brother and the employee followed the suspect for several blocks and stopped him from fleeing until police arrived. Officers arrested the man, identified as 33-year-old Franz Jeudy. He was charged with misdemeanor assault, meaning he's not bail eligible. He will be released back onto the street, and that's the part that has the victim and her family frustrated and afraid. Any lawyers know why this wouldn't be battery? Would that make this more serious?
I honestly don’t understand how leftists think this soft on crime stance will help “social justice.” Any leftists out there want to explain it to me? By letting the violent criminal back out on the street, what historic injustice is being remedied, exactly?
Let’s be real here - all this soft on crime stuff is purposely fanned by the media. Why? It’s so that when the time comes to deploy the mass AI surveillance dragnet, we welcome it with open arms.
Are you saying that these DAs and judges are NOT ACTUALLY soft on crime; that the media is just making it look that way?
The man is schizophrenic, which is why he got a lowered offense, initially. The offense has since been upgraded and he is facing up to 7 years in jail
Thanks for the context. It seemed strange that the woman had such severe injuries and this guy got a misdemeanor
Yes, the other "context" is that the suspect is still not incarcerated. May 1, 2024: "Franz Jeudy, 33, remained on supervised release after he was indicted on charges including second-degree assault – a bail eligible offense – more than a month after he randomly attacked bus aide Dulche Pichardo in Crown Heights, prosecutors said. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office requested $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond on the upgraded charges, but Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Matthew Sciarrino turned down that request." https://nypost.com/2024/05/01/us-news/suspect-accused-of-socking-mother-of-3-and-breaking-her-jaw-cut-loose-again-in-nyc-court-despite-upgraded-felony-charge/
This no bail crap needs to stop. Each case should be evaluated on its merits. If the prosecution has direct evidence tying him to the assault, then he needs to post bail in some form. BTW...eyewitness accounts are not the best evidence...lol
Progressives lost their collective minds after the death of Saint George Floyd. All this equity in justice does not help anybody
The worst part is it’s misdirected too. He died from fentanyl, and rather than do something about it we’re letting the cartels and China bring it across the border and paying them to do it.
Life in prison should be the lightest punishment
