Got an offer finally. Recruiter originally mentioned the salary was between 120k-140k. Which I mentioned that was the range I was looking for. And they offered me 130k. Do I have much room to play with? Is it worth negotiating if im only 10k from the top range recruiter mentioned? I don’t have any other offer, so not much leverage I can use here. Current TC - 90k
If you don’t have another offer don’t risk it
I'd ask for $135k. Every company expects a bit of soft negotiation. If they let you go for politely asking, that is a red flag
Just take it. Few hundy per month after taxes shouldn’t matter that much to you.
But come next year during annual raise, they will just get measly bump that probably wouldn’t even take them up to what they could ask for now initially. Then it’s take 2 extra years just to get to what they could have had initially
You mentioned the 120-140 range to the recruiter without them giving you any sort of number or range first? What’s the company?
No other way around. They asked my expectations, and I reverse asked them what’s the expected range for this role
The fact they just gave you dead center of the range the recruiter told you means they can offer more. Just watch some YouTube videos on how to negotiate tech salary and then counter with some more. They’ll either tell you they can’t go higher or will give you a new number
