What would you guys say?
I can safely say that I haven't ever rejected a candidate because they job hopped. Anecdotally, serial job hoppers tend not to have earned a promo the long way, so they might be surprised or disappointed by the promo process at Amazon.
Agreed to the Amazon promo process part. When I was at Amazon, it was easier to leave and come back at a higher level than it was to get promoted.
I have seen hesitation from recruiters and interviewers if you have some short tenures recently. Normally if you can articulate rational reasoning it isn't an issue. Just keep in mind all organizations are the same with the same problems. That's small shops to billion dollar corporations. It's just a matter of which crap show you prefer. You're not supposed to get fulfillment from your job, you're supposed to collect a paycheck. Fulfillment comes from life outside of work.
I heard that you should stick it out for at least half a year, but in current environment of layoffs and toxicity I don't think anyone cares about this anymore. And, personally, knowing how MS is, less than 3 months of it on a CV is kind of a green flag for me.
Seniority matters. As a senior engineer or manager, it takes time to build and materialize impactful things. I would never hire someone who “grew” into seniority by job hopping, who never established themselves. How do I know that they are not leaving a mess behind themselves for junior engineers to fix?
it depends based on resume history have a few 2.5-3 year stints then one with a year or less, no red flag since layoffs, bad fit, shit happens you get a pass i think its only a red flag if you have all of your roles being like 1 year or less i’ve seen alot of people who have been laid off from bigger name tech companies, taking a bridge job and peacing once they get a tech offer. Money is money and we all got bills to pay. company loyalty isn’t a 2 way street like it was back in the day according to boomers
For me, 3 years, but you get amnesty on one job hop because stuff happens. I just don't want to spend a year getting someone up to speed if they are likely going to bail soon after that.
I'd leave aftee 3 months if the tc made sense
