Will Silicon Valley Be Outsourced to Overseas?

Folks. Google layoffs are not a good sign for Silicon Valley home owners. Do we expect Silicon Valley home prices to crash? This Gen AI thing will enable companies to outsource jobs to LCOL places. And it started with Google. The rest will copy pasta them. Do I need to sell my home? And hold off on buying a bigger home in the valley? #mortgage #housing #sanfrancisco

I’ve heard people complaining and worrying about outsourcing for two decades now. I don’t think it’s a problem. I think it gets used in an appropriate way where it actually can help. It cannot help in all cases.

This was not an issue when remote work for the large majority was impossible and internet reliability was as good in places like India. That’s not the case anymore. The pandemic has shown that productive work can be don remotely. So why pay a crap ton for one SF engineer vs 5 from India? Obviously this isn’t a one size fits all but when massively profitable companies layoff for the sake of the stock price. They could care less where these engineers come from. Stonks just need to go up.

Internet in India is still a big concern.

Not only is outsourcing now finally going to happen for real, but there are expected rate cuts over the next few years, incentives toward first time home buyers, incentives toward builders, rezoning laws revamped, "investment home" laws in the spotlight - all coming The market isn't going to continue to stay overpriced like recent home buyers want to believe. Younger folks can't buy homes near their jobs now, it's a hot issue for the entire country and will be addressed via home prices declining one way or another

Ha aha yes. Housing will become cheap in the Bay Area just like … zero other desirable places in the world.

Companies have been out sourcing work to India for years. Nothing notable has changed. It’s usually work which has matured.

Mass layoffs will drive home prices up

Outsourcing has been a scare tactic for decades. I’ve seen first hand teams get moved to India only to have their shit scrapped and redone by a team in North America a few years later. Only certain things can be outsourced. That is and will continue to be the case for a long time. Things don’t change that quickly. No one is going to hire massively in Europe, because of the labor laws. So don’t worry. Your housing prices will continue to rise. And if they happen to fall it will be temporary. It will climb again. Stop worrying and enjoy life

You also forgot the wars in Europe

Amazon sidewinds May 3

Yes that too. Even prior to that it wouldn’t have happened

From the name Silicon Valley, you can tell how things will go. Silicon Valley starts from semiconductors using silicon, but look at now, how many real semiconductors business left here? Silicon Valley is evolving all the time. Google, Meta, Apple can go down, but Nvidia, OpenAI and more new business will arise. It's still called Silicon Valley, though.

If the world keeps going the way it’s going, they will bring semiconductor manufacturing back to the US as well

Outsourcing is almost always a mistake that takes people a lifetime to realize they got it wrong
