Working towards $1k/yr in dividends

I think I’m on track to do it way before EOY if I beef up a few more positions.. Any tips or stocks to think about for a bump?

You do etfs or stocks or both ?

Pure Storage banditooo OP Apr 26

this specific dividend portfolio is mostly individual stocks, aside SCHD

Micron yrCE83 Apr 26

Just buy etfs ... unless you have at least a 7 figure port.. it's pointless to have a dividend port

I have another significant portfolio, wanted to start a dividend portfolio just for kicks to see what I can hit in a year

Pure Storage banditooo OP Apr 26

JPMorgan Chase EastD1628 Apr 26

Covered calls don't work very well in the long run. The underlying asset depreciates. Google/YouTube is your friend.

If you’re just looking to generate income, low risk option is SGOV— and most people can avoid paying income tax on the dividends. Also— What are you using to track this? Need something like this.

Pure Storage banditooo OP Apr 26

This app is Roi! And I have explored SGOV but didn’t pull the trigger yet, but I’ll look into it further

Google yilw Apr 26

How can you avoid income tax on dividends?

Deloitte kxmwoi Apr 26

Would you be willing to share your portfolio with us OP? 1k returns off a 5k portfolio is like 20% returns a year. That's pretty high.

JPMorgan Chase EastD1628 Apr 26

With that yield, principal will erode, not sustainable

Fannie Mae rht3453 Apr 26

Look into preferred and emerging country ETFs

Microsoft sawcy Apr 26

You were saying you are just having fun with this. If this is not a side project then avoid.. You will be paying a lot of taxes over time. Best way is to choose a growth stock or ETF so that you ain't paying taxes and every penny is preserved. I chose VONG
