The one I don't have to drive to service every few months and pay astronomical prices for maintenance? Not sure if this list has something like this.

The b58 in the M40i is one of the most reliable engines BMW has ever produced

Meta tPRN66 May 3

Good for bmw I guess.

X3M>Q5>Macan my experience

Amazon shifti OP May 3

Do you have experience with the M40i? Do you think it's worth the premium + depreciation to get a 2022-2023 with mild hybrid although less tech and features, versus the 2021 with more tech and a much lower price?

Adobe Wsp-tutu May 3

Yes I owned x3m 2021 and enjoyed it but recently sold and got 330i (for some personal reason) I also own Q5. Q5 is solid reliable but little boring. I don’t like hybrid shit. My preference would be 2021. Take a test drive by yourself and experience m power.

Macan is small & cute, doesn’t feel like a SUV. But as a result, most sportier of the three to drive. Not very practical tbh. X3 M40i is pretty decent, practical, sporty & reliable with the B58 straight 6❤️‍🔥 But if I am stretching this much, I would spend little more for either: 1. BMW X5 40i, simply because of the ride quality. Air suspension is like magic carpet and the sporty ride for such a SUV is unbelievable. Very practical, loving mine for last 2years. 2. Porsche Cayenne, simply because it feels like a sports SUV. The dynamics, gearbox and ride quality is brilliant🥹 And yeah, we dont talk about Audis.

If I’m not wrong bmw no longer offers air suspension option on X5 40i due to parts shortage, you can only get it on X7 or Mlite X5.

Yup x5 50e offers air suspension as a default. Get the x3 m40i or if you can wait, it will be refreshed this year

Hey OP, I just cross-shopped these (Macan and X3 mainly) and went with the M40i. Here was my thoughts after test driving. The Macan handles slightly better than the X3, but that’s about it. The PDK transmission system used lead its class, but the ZF8 is just as good nowadays. That’s about where the similarities ended for me. The Macan really feels cramped on the interior and my dog wouldn’t fit in the trunk area, which is a big reason I was looking. Tall rear passengers would be less comfy too. For similar pricing, the Macan also offered far less creature comforts. On the m40i, I was going to get a ‘21, but found a fully loaded ‘19 and loved how raw the exhaust sounds. That + not getting a COVID car, decided to get the ‘19 because the tech features weren’t enough to sell me on an upgrade. If you care about driver assist features though, even with every box ticked the ‘19 pre-facelift isn’t very good. I think 2021 or 2022 is when the really good driver assist features arrived, but you can fact check that yourself.

Oh and the SQ5 is a joke compared to either of these. The Macan is based on the same platform, and is what the SQ5 could / should be. The SQ5 is for moms who convinced their husbands to buy them something above the base model so they can flex the badge

Amazon shifti OP May 3

Thanks! What was your out the door price and mileage on the loaded 2019? I don't care at all about driver assist features, I never even use cruise control in cars. I am mostly compelled toward iDrive7 and also curious about the mild Hybrid system in the 2022+ (plus I like the redesign) But if iDrive6 is good enough, and the mild Hybrid is not a big deal, I'd consider a first gen. Would save a ton of money and still deliver the M40i experience No energy-sword tail lights though sadly 😂

Audi💩 is even more generic than Lexus

Uber hfHH16 May 3

Macan gts is a driver’s car. X3 mlite is more of a utility car.

Amazon shifti OP May 3

Utility is my first priority, fun is a close second, reliability third. Sounds like M40i is the right choice

Apple OSkn80 May 3

I really like Audi. Their UX makes the most sense

Drove them all. BMW X3M40i is good but you’ll feel the road and all its imperfections. If you have family you probably want a comfortable ride, a stiffer suspension won’t give you that. Handling is great though. Interiors is okay. Exterior is meh (still like the old kidney grille) SQ5 has the best of comfort + interiors + unassuming powerful engine. Looks like the Q5 but easy to put on mods to make it aggressive. Macan GTS — you probably haven’t driven one. If you did you wouldn’t have this poll 😄 instead you’d have a picture with the Macan GTS! People who have the money to afford Macan GTS don’t look at BMW x3 or SQ5

Amazon shifti OP May 4

The Macan GTS I would be getting would be a 2017-2018

Snowflake ex-aviato May 4

Porsche CPO program is miles ahead of any other luxury brand. Are you looking for cars in the 2017-2018 model year? I’d go with Macan if that’s the case. If you’re going for brand new then either of them should be fine — again everyone’s driving style is different and you haven’t made it clear what your priorities are

Porsche cayenne e hybrid

SQ5 handles much worse than even Macan base. Still it has good interior and decent acceleration. X3 M40i might be the best middleground as Macan GTS will cost arms and legs. Not in the same league. Maintenance like simple oil change will be super expensive as well for GTS. I did test drive of X3, Macan Base/T/S, SQ5. Bought Macan T CPO as it handles best and most comfortable with air suspension. Also almost 6 year warranty.
