Have an interview coming up with tenstorrent for a hardware position(ASIC Design). Had a few questions. Appreciate all the help. 1. How is the work culture? Is it good to join now(pre ipo)? 2. Any idea on the total compensation for 3 years of experience in ASIC design(location: santa clara)? 3. How is the RTO situation? Recruiter mentioned it is hybrid and quite flexible. Current TC: 140k #hardware #interview #semiconductor #intel #qualcomm #nvidia #apple
1. Work culture is good, is it good to join now pre-ipo? Depends, financially, probably not (vs. a competitive offer from a bigger company) the IPO is unlikely to happen within the next 10 years, if ever. It is good to join if you can learn the most at TT and if you enjoy working on the assignment. 2. TC for 3 years of experience in Santa Clara, try to ask for $150k at least, if your current TC is 140k then ask for $150k. You can probably find that in the bay right now from other companies I'd imagine. 3. No RTO, there's an empty "we're a work from work" lip service by C-suite. One office tried to turn desks into musical chairs for low attendance office people, it was a disaster. Unless Jim Keller is in office, which is rare, almost no one is in office. Especially operations, marketing, sales, HR, and recruiting, along with C-suite and 1 level down complete ghosts 90% of the time.
Don't listen to the HR guy about work culture. Trust me there is none. I
Elaborate? The work culture works for some and hasn't worked for others (just like any company) maybe you can say why it didn't/doesn't work for you and I can say why it works for me. TT culture works for me (not HR btw) because I set my boundaries and they've been fair and accommodating to me with my health situation. I have good familiarity with navigating the code base and how to navigate the pain points behind the internal infra and tools, and frankly, it would take a while to re-learn that at a new job, and the day to day devops flow is really not awful at TT. I'm also very impressed by some team members and definitely have a unidirectional professional respect for them. But most importantly, I put my work down at the end of every day and I don't work or check emails in evenings/weekends. There's a certain number of central TT staff who disdain me for doing this and I don't care because I'll never earn their respect. They can work themselves to death for Jim K's imaginary stock price. So I kind of shrug off the borderline abrasiveness of certain interactions and situations. Same as I've done at every other company I've worked at. TT is mid culture IMHO, not great but not the worst. Some good culture glue guys keep things together. So I've found they accommodate my situation fairly well, although my hopes for a successful exit are diminished every fundraising round where we do not ship product.
