Hey everyone, looking for some advice. My company has planned to invest in public API development, integrations and (eventually) a developer platform. I’m the PM placed on this roadmap. I’m curious about the pros and cons of specializing in APIs as a PM. I’m about 2 years into my product management career, and I’ve worked very generally on product features/areas. I do not have a technical background beyond what I’ve gleaned from working with engineers. Are there risks of being pigeonholed? Limited career growth? Issues ramping/learning without an eng background? For people who are API PMs, do you enjoy it? Any guidance is welcome :)
I would say it's a good move IMO
It’s literally a foundational thing in software engineering at every company. Why not specialize? Best thing I ever did as a dev
