As an hiring manager, do you want to receive an email from a candidate thanking you after their interview or it’s unnecessary and doesn’t matter for your decision
No
Yes. I like thank you notes that incorporate topics that we spoke about and that reiterate why you’d be an asset.
Thank you note does not change the outcome but it's nice to receive it.
doesn’t matter in most cases. in some cases it’s a negative
A quick email reflects positively on the candidate from my perspective. I know others who don’t care one way or the other. I don’t know, nor can imagine, anyone who would view it as a negative.
I welcome it and if it's well wriiten, it's a huge plus. Nowadays it's astonishing to see so many people who don't think they are necessary.
Recognize that you don’t get paid for spending time on interviews especially for people who are already working and making time to do the interview ( which they could have spent somewhere else ) .. so please say thank you. It’s free and won’t hurt.
If it's just a thank you, it's nice but doesn't do much. However, you can use a thank you to highlight areas where you can help solve the orgs problems, areas of alignment, things you're excited about, etc. I've used them to share relevant articles or prior work. That's been a very effective strategy for me.
This is good advice.
