Manager finds ways to tell me things that are very obvious aspects of workplace, tasks in general which indirectly feels like an insult .. how do you deal with such things? .. last Friday she told me - if you don't have something to say then mute your mic on the call while not everyone does it TC 260 k Yoe 5
Think about where we work. Tech people. Managing tech people. Are techies well known for interpersonal skills? Fug no. Be aware of your environment and learn to behave your eq.
Seems like a micro managing attitude. Be aware. I'm with the other comentor who said there is no upside letting her know.
This is when you play them at their game and when they go low you go high. They do it because they are trying to get a rise out of you. They are probably threatened by you because of their own insecurities. I would have responded to this by always muting my mic moving forward and tell them that. I apologize I'll be sure to always mute my mic moving forward. Next time they nit pick at something else then do the same thing. They'll eventually find someone else to prey on. I'm not saying let them outright disrespect you though. If that occurs then stand your ground and don't allow it and tell them you will not tolerate disrespect
I wouldn’t take this as an insult. You are getting a crash course in best practices
Don’t be too sensitive. May be you have some background noise that is disturbing the meeting
Were you making sounds on the meeting? Even a mechanical keyboard or mouse can be annoying. If not, then I’d ask her to explain.
Yeh.. You are being sensitive. Your manager just asked you to follow best practice. OP, care to share your ethnicity?
Indian here. The reason I posted was this happened in several occasions
I think we Indians don’t take criticism well. Not denying that there might be actual substance behind what you are saying, but just a related topic

I would just ignore it, no upside in letting it bother you. If you think manager is singling you out find a different manager but could just be bad management style
