So, my boyfriend is turning 30 next year and he is Nigerian. He recently moved to Canada on a student visa, but is realizing that it was the biggest mistake he made. He has people that were mislead and told him that he should just come to Canada as a student, that he has a masters degree as well and getting permanent residency would be a piece of cake. Only to find out over the course of time as he’s been there that the struggle is way more real & seeming possible to get a PR in as little as 1-1.5 years. He spoke with an older lady he met that advised him that coming in as a student was the biggest mistake and that he should’ve waited and came into Canada with his PR given to him, since he qualifies and his masters degree helps a great deal. Is there any way this problem can be reversed or any other way to abandon the student status and get a PR instead by being able to also declare his masters degree?
Maybe your BF should have done his research? I don’t understand how people with graduate degrees can’t bother reading the fine print when upending their lives and moving to another country. There’s nothing Blind can tell you. You should hire an immigration lawyer.
Lol, you can never understand through this snippet I managed to even sum up. Pray it never happens to you or your loved ones. Keep the dead advice.
Unity is right, due diligence can be expected from us educated folks. Why is he still talking with a random elder lady? Just spend 100$ and consult a good immigration lawyer.
Can he apply in the express entry? Other option is to move to the US by finding a job there.
When you say get a PR what exactly do you mean? Through what category? Gettint a PR from outside Canada is not as easy either. Have you done research on what categories he might be eligible for and how long it takes if he wasn’t on a student visa?
Nigerians are infamous for scamming people into marriage even after having a spouse in their home country. He is gonna try and marry you to fix this immigration problem. Check /immigration subreddit and you can read such numerous instances.
