We have no idea whether users dropped because Reddit doesn’t make this information public and third party tracking services were dependent on api to work, so no longer work. There was no reason to destroy third party apps which provided a significantly superior experience to the official app. The smart move would have been require premium to use third party apps, but Steve is an Elon admirer and decided to go scorched earth instead
