Hi folks, I am considering taking a role at Meta. One concern I have is that I have a hidden disability (chronic pain condition). I am concerned about how this condition may affect my ability to commute to the office 3x a week. Some weeks, this would be no issue. Other weeks, when pain is bad, commuting 3x weekly would be a real challenge. In addition, there is a possibility I’ll need surgery for this in the future, which would necessitate a prolonged period of remote work. Beyond the commute aspect, I don’t expect this condition to affect my performance in the role. I am not sure about the best way to handle this. Should I try to negotiate to make the role remote from the get-go (probably not ideal visibility wise)? Take the offer and then work with HR to reach an accommodation once I’ve started? Reach out to the manager informally? Welcome any thoughts on this!
They are heartless and not super flexible with remote. It comes from the top down they want pods and not to have separated team members
Do remote roles exist at all at Meta? I'm currently interviewing and relocation is out of the question for me but I am fine with flying in for a few days pretty often (I'm an hour flight from the office). I'd even do it 1-2 days per week if I really needed to.
All should be good as long as you perform AND follow the rules. If either of the two get affected, they will find a reason to let you go, just like most other companies. P.S. I don't work at Meta but have a few close friends who do. So take that with a grain of salt.
I would highlight it from the get go
